Following the Footsteps of Jesus

Following the footsteps of Jesus
Following the footsteps of Jesus

Introduction

Following the footsteps of Jesus means walking in His light and serving others with compassion. Discover how to reflect His love daily.  Following the footsteps of Jesus is the high calling of every believer. Our journey with Christ begins when He calls us out of darkness into His marvelous light. This truth reminds us of our responsibility to serve others as He served us, which is the heart of discipleship and the essence of the Christian walk.

Scripture Reading

“For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.” (1 Peter 2:21)

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” (1 Peter 2:9)

Devotion

We are responsible for what we know. Jesus died for you and me, giving us an example to follow. Peter clearly states that our calling is not to live for ourselves but to serve others. When we follow in the footsteps of Jesus, we reflect His humility, compassion, and sacrificial love.

Because we have seen the Light, we are now called to shine it brightly for others to see. Our faith should be active, reaching out with hands of service and hearts of kindness. Every step taken in obedience brings us closer to living as Christ intended.

Life Application

Following Jesus is not passive—it is intentional. As Proverbs 23:7 reminds us, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” When our thoughts are centered on Christ, our actions will naturally follow His path. Today, let us shine His light in practical ways: encourage someone discouraged, help someone in need, or share a word of hope. The world needs to see Christ in us.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for calling us out of darkness into Your marvelous light. Help us to walk faithfully in the footsteps of Jesus, serving others with joy and compassion. May our lives reflect Your love in every word and deed. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

New Beginnings with the Lord – Trusting God Through Life’s Great Deliveries

Twins representing new beginnings with the Lord
New Beginnings In Christ

Introduction

Reflect on New Beginnings with the Lord as you trust God in uncertainty and grow spiritually through change, inspired by Psalm 46:10.  New Beginnings with the Lord — This devotion reflects on trusting God through uncertainty and embracing new life, just as twins in the womb anticipate the unknown beyond birth.

We Are Blessed

We are blessed with ten-year-old twins in our family. James and Tess were born ten years ago tomorrow — the day after my stroke. They came a little early and spent some time in the NICU. Susan had family in two hospitals. It was a busy time. I often wonder if twins perhaps have this kind of cerebral conversation in the womb…

A Womb Conversation

In the cozy confines of their mother’s womb, two developing twins engaged in a philosophical debate that had puzzled them for months…

“Hey, sis,” whispered James, his tiny voice muffled by the amniotic fluid. “Do you ever wonder if there’s life after birth?”

Tess scoffed, her umbilical cord swaying gently. “Don’t be ridiculous. This is all there is. What more could we need?”

“But I’ve been thinking,” James persisted. “What if there’s more beyond these walls? A vast world waiting for us?”

“Listen to yourself,” Tess chuckled. “You sound like one of those crazy cord-huggers who believe in the ‘Great Delivery.’ There’s nothing out there.”

James kicked thoughtfully. “But don’t you feel it sometimes? This strange urge to move our legs, as if they have a greater purpose?”

“That’s just gas,” Tess retorted. “Stop overthinking it.”

“And what about the voice we hear? The one that sings to us and tells us stories?”

“Clearly a figment of your imagination,” Tess said, rolling her big blue developing eyes. “You’ve been drinking too much amniotic fluid.”

James sighed. “I just can’t shake this feeling that we’re being prepared for something more. Why else would we be growing and changing?”

“To fit more comfortably in here, obviously,” Tess replied. “This is our forever home.”

“But what if it isn’t?” James pressed. “What if there’s a whole other existence waiting for us? With light and air and—”

“Now you’re just making things up,” Tess interrupted. “Light? Air? Those are myths told to gullible fetuses.”

Transitions!

As they continued their debate, a sudden tightening sensation gripped them both.

“What’s happening?” Tess exclaimed, panic rising in her voice.

James remained calm. “I think it’s time,” he said softly. “The Great Delivery is upon us.”

“No, no, no!” Tess wailed. “I’m not ready! I don’t want to leave!”

But as the pressure increased and their world began to shift, James whispered, “Don’t be afraid, Tess. This is just the beginning of our real adventure.”

And with that, they embarked on their journey into the unknown, leaving behind the only world they had ever known, ready to discover the truth about life after the womb.

Scripture

“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10

This verse carries deep spiritual significance. It implies trust in the face of uncertainty, inner peace, a divine presence, a need to surrender, and perspective of our small role in the grand scheme of things. Just like the twins as they were born into their new realm, we are born again into the life eternal.

Life Application

We are spiritual beings here to have a human experience. Exercise your spiritual muscles by trusting God with your unknowns. As 2 Corinthians 5:17 reminds us, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” Embrace every season of life as preparation for the next, knowing that God is present in every transition and “Great Delivery.”

Morning Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for preparing us for new beginnings. Help us to be still and know that You are God, trusting You as we step into the unknown. Strengthen our faith and give us peace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God Has a Plan for You – Restored by His Grace

God’s plan brings hope and restoration
God Has A Plan For You

Introduction

Discover how God restores broken lives and gives hope for the future. No matter your past, His plan for you is filled with grace and purpose.  God has a plan for you, even when you feel broken or unworthy. This devotion reminds us that no mistake, failure, or setback can cancel the plan of God. His word reassures us: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11). Truly, this is our hope-filled promise.

Broken but Restored

Self-inflicted suffering often leaves us feeling unworthy in God’s eyes. Yet, the Bible shows us that God consistently uses broken people for His glory. Here is the evidence:

  • Moses, a murderer, became God’s great deliverer of Israel.
  • Jonah, who ran from God, was transformed into a preacher of repentance.
  • Peter, who denied Christ three times, became a leader in the early church.
  • Saul of Tarsus, the persecutor, was transformed into Paul, an apostle.
  • Jesus welcomed a repentant prostitute, declaring her many sins forgiven (Luke 7:47).
  • David, a man after God’s heart, fell into sin yet was restored by God’s mercy.

Each of these examples shows that God’s plan continues in spite of failure. He restores, redeems, and renews His children because His purpose is greater than our past.

Life Application

Scripture reassures us in Proverbs 23:7, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” If you see yourself as broken beyond repair, you will live defeated. But if you believe God’s truth—that He has a plan and a future for you—you can walk in victory. Take courage today: your mistakes don’t define you. God’s mercy and calling do. The same God who restored Moses, Peter, and Paul is working in you right now.

Morning Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that Your plans are always for my good. When I feel unworthy, remind me that Your grace restores me. Help me trust that You are guiding my steps into the future You have prepared. Amen.

Lift Up Holy Hands in True Allegiance to Christ

Person lifting hands in worship to God
Lifting Holy Hands

Introduction

Learn why lifting up holy hands in worship expresses true allegiance to Christ, whose steadfast love is better than life.  Lift up holy hands is both a command and a privilege for every believer. Because God’s steadfast love is better than life, our response should be to worship Him with our whole being. This devotion reminds us that true allegiance belongs not to a nation, but to Jesus Christ our Savior.

“Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands.”
Psalms 63:3-4

Americans are taught at an early age to stand and place our hands over our heart when reciting the Pledge of Allegiance or singing the “Star Spangled Banner.” That outward expression demonstrates respect and loyalty. In the same way, Christians across all denominations should be unashamed to lift our hands in praise and allegiance to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Paul made his desire clear when instructing Timothy: believers should lift their hands in prayer without anger or doubt.

“I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.”
1 Timothy 2:8

Morning Prayer

Father, today I lift my hands to You in surrender and allegiance. Teach me to honor You above all else and to praise You with my whole heart. May my worship be sincere and my life bring glory to Your name. Amen.

Life Application

In Psalm 63:3–4, David declares that God’s steadfast love is better than life itself. That truth compels us to outwardly express our devotion. Raising hands in worship is not about performance, but about surrender. Paul reinforces this in 1 Timothy 2:8, urging believers everywhere to pray with lifted hands, free of anger and doubt. The practical takeaway is simple: worship with boldness. Let your actions—whether by lifting hands, bowing, or kneeling—match the allegiance of your heart. Jesus deserves our ultimate loyalty, far above any earthly pledge.

Reflection Question

Do you give more allegiance to your country than to Christ? How might you demonstrate, in both word and action, that Jesus is your true Lord?

Editor’s Note

A young woman and her husband once sat near Kaye and me in church. Before they knew our names, they referred to us as the “couple who lifted their hands.” What a joyful testimony that even a simple act of worship can inspire others!

Works Will Not Save You, But Might Save Your Neighbor

Serving others as an expression of faith
Serving Others

Introduction

Works will not save you, but might save your neighbor is a truth that blends both Paul’s and James’ teachings. We are saved by grace through faith, but our good works serve as evidence of that faith and as a blessing to others. When we live out our faith in service, our neighbors see Christ’s love through us.

Bible Reading

“Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” (James 2:18)

Reflection

Paul reminded the believers in Ephesians 2:8 that salvation is not earned by good deeds. Instead, it is God’s free gift of grace. Martin Luther once said, “God does not need your good works, but your neighbor does.” This captures the balance between faith and action. We are not working to earn salvation, but because we are saved, we gladly work to serve others in Christ’s name.

Life Application

Jesus Himself gave us the model: “Even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve” (Matthew 20:28). When we serve others, we display the living reality of Christ in us. Faith that bears no fruit remains unseen, but faith expressed through action testifies to God’s love. Our neighbors may not read a Bible, but they can read our lives. Each act of kindness—whether visiting the sick, encouraging the lonely, or feeding the hungry—preaches the gospel without words. As Proverbs 23:7 reminds us, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Our inner faith should naturally overflow into outward service.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of salvation by grace through faith. Help us to live out our faith in love, service, and good works that bless others. May our lives reflect Christ so that our neighbors see Your light through us. Amen.

Experiencing Jesus Calming Life’s Seas: Do Not Be Afraid

Jesus calming the storm
Experiencing Jesus calming life’s seas

Introduction

Experiencing Jesus calming life’s seas gives us assurance that His presence brings peace even in our fiercest storms. When trials arise, we can remember that Jesus is with us in the boat, guiding and strengthening us. This truth provides hope and encouragement for every believer facing turbulent times.

Bible Reading

“When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea, got into a boat, and started across the sea to Capernaum. The sea became rough because a strong wind was blowing. They saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they were frightened. But he said to them, ‘IT IS I; DO NOT BE AFRAID.’” (John 6:16-20)

Reflection

When the disciples faced a storm, they were terrified until Jesus showed up with His calming presence. We, too, often feel overwhelmed when life’s waves crash against us. Yet Jesus reminds us not to be afraid because He is near. His words and actions demonstrate that He is Lord over both the seas and our circumstances.

Life Application

Experiencing Jesus calming life’s seas teaches us valuable lessons:

  • Trust His promise never to forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).
  • Surrender ourselves fully to Him, knowing He carries our burdens.
  • Exhibit courage even in dire circumstances, because He is with us (Joshua 1:9).
  • Be prepared to stay the course, no matter how fierce the storm.

Jesus told His disciples that storms come and go, yet His presence remains constant: “When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’ And in the morning, ‘It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times” (Matthew 16:2-3). Even in storms, we can rest assured that Jesus walks toward us, bringing peace and strength.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for walking into the storms of our lives and calming our fears. Help us to trust, surrender, and walk with courage as You steady our hearts. Remind us that You are always present in our boat. Amen.

Worship in Song

Encouragement

Good morning! As you thank Jesus today for His presence in our boat, remember that He walks on water to get to us. His love truly lifts us above the storm.

God’s Plan for My Life: Living Spirit-Led

Choosing to follow God's plan for my life guided by the Holy Spirit
Living Spirit-Led

Let Us Pray: Lord, guide our hearts and minds to follow Your Spirit. Help us honor You in every decision we make. Amen.

Let Us Worship In Song:

Introduction: God’s plan for my life is central to a life that honors Him. When we submit to His guidance, our lives reflect His glory. The meta description phrase reminds us that the Holy Spirit’s direction brings fulfillment and purpose.

Life Application: The question we must ask ourselves today is, do we live a life fully surrendered to God, allowing the Holy Spirit to guide each choice? God’s plan for my life is not merely a concept; it is a blueprint for joy, peace, and spiritual growth. When we resist the Spirit and attempt to live “our way,” the consequences may include frustration, missed opportunities, or spiritual stagnation. Haggai 1:6 reminds us that our efforts without God’s guidance can feel unproductive, while Haggai 1:9 encourages us to return to Him to receive true blessing.

Spirit-led Life

Furthermore, John 10:10 promises an abundant life, but this abundance comes when we align with God’s plan, not when we follow our selfish desires. Living a Spirit-led life requires intentionality. We must seek God daily in prayer, immerse ourselves in His Word, and allow the Spirit to correct and refine us. Even in small, seemingly insignificant matters, God cares. He uses life’s frustrations and trials to awaken our hearts to dependence on Him.

Choosing the Spirit’s guidance over our own understanding ensures we honor God in both big decisions and daily routines. Ultimately, the choice is ours. Will we pursue the abundant life God promises, or will we stubbornly insist on our own way? By yielding to the Holy Spirit, we experience peace and confidence, knowing our steps are directed by God Himself. Let us choose today to live in a manner that brings glory and honor to God in all things.

Stand Alone – Courage for Faith

Stand alone in faith with courage and trust in God
Stand Alone

Let Us Pray

Lord, give us the courage to stand alone for You when the world is watching. Strengthen our hearts to remain faithful even when we are by ourselves. Amen.

Let Us Worship In Song

Introduction

Stand alone moments can feel intimidating, yet the Lord assures us that He is always with us. “And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ Then I said, ‘Here I am! Send me.'” (Isaiah 6:8) The meta message is clear: we may be physically alone, but spiritually, we are never alone.

Life Application

Often, we lack the moral courage to stand alone for Jesus. Social pressures and fear can paralyze us. However, Scripture gives powerful examples of those who demonstrated faith without support. The sinful woman approached Jesus alone and washed His feet with her tears (Luke 7:38). John stood by the cross, the only disciple faithful in that moment (John 19:26). David, a young boy, confronted Goliath when no one else dared (1 Samuel 17).

These stories teach that while our natural instinct may be to follow the crowd, God calls us to boldness in solitude. He promises, “And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). This assurance allows us to stand alone without fear, knowing God’s presence is constant.

In practical terms, standing alone for Jesus may mean making ethical choices at work, defending your faith among friends, or serving others when no one else will. Your courage becomes a testament, inspiring those around you even if they do not immediately recognize it. Proverbs 23:7 reminds us, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he,” showing that internal resolve shapes external action. By meditating on God’s Word, praying for courage, and leaning on His Spirit, we can confidently take steps to stand alone when called.

George Foreman’s Encounter with Jesus Changed His Life

Let Us Pray

Heavenly Father, thank You for transforming lives through the power of Jesus Christ. May we live boldly for You and share our testimony with others. Amen.

Let Us Worship In Song

Introduction

George Foreman’s encounter with Jesus shows us that no matter the stage of life, Christ can transform hearts. This devotion reminds us that the gospel remains unchanged and powerful.

Life Application

The Bible says, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7). Our thoughts and beliefs shape our actions, and nowhere is this truth clearer than in the testimony of George Foreman’s encounter with Jesus. Foreman’s story spans decades, but the central theme never shifted—Jesus Christ saved him and continues to sustain him.

In his younger years, Foreman described “the night Jesus came alive in me.” That moment marked a new direction in his life. Later, in mid-life, he reaffirmed his faith, declaring that his encounter with Christ was real and lasting. As an older man, he continued to share his story, stating that he even experienced death but returned to life with the same message: Jesus is Lord.

What makes this testimony powerful is its consistency. George Foreman’s encounter with Jesus never changed with fame, wealth, or age. Hebrews 13:8 declares, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” That same unchanging Savior calls us to place our faith in Him. When we exercise our spiritual muscles—through prayer, study, obedience, and worship—we grow stronger in our walk with God.

Like Foreman, we are invited to live with courage and conviction. Our crown of life is being prepared in heaven, and our daily choices are shaping us for eternity. Share your testimony, live boldly, and remember that the power of Christ in you is greater than any challenge you face. George Foreman’s encounter with Jesus reminds us that God’s grace never fails.

Making of a Champion in Life Through Parenting

Making of a Champion in Life through parenting and faith
Christian Parenting

Let Us Pray

Heavenly Father, guide us as we raise children and grandchildren in Your discipline and instruction. Keep our words gentle, our hearts patient, and our example true to Christ. Amen.

Let Us Worship In Song

Introduction

Making of a Champion in Life begins at home, where parents shape character and faith. God calls fathers and mothers to guide their children in discipline, patience, and love. The making of a champion in life is not about earthly trophies but about eternal crowns prepared by Jesus.

Life Application

Paul tells parents, “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4). This teaching reminds us that parents are life coaches. Every family has its unique style, yet there are universal principles that shape the making of a champion in life.

James provides practical wisdom for daily living: be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger (James 1:19). These three practices alone could transform any household. He also calls us to put away all filthiness and wickedness, to bridle the tongue, and to remember that faith without obedience is empty. A careless word wounds, but a gentle answer heals. When parents live as doers of the Word rather than hearers only, they model a faith that children can trust and imitate.

St. Francis of Assisi’s famous advice applies beautifully to parenting: “Preach the Gospel at all times and if necessary, use words.” A champion in life is not made by lectures but by consistent examples. When children see faith lived out with integrity—through honesty, forgiveness, prayer, and service—they inherit more than rules; they inherit a way of life that leads to Christ.

Proverbs 23:7 says, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Parents plant seeds in the heart by the way they love and correct. A home rooted in God’s Word becomes training ground for champions who understand that victory is not measured by worldly success but by walking faithfully with Jesus. Through this, the making of a champion in life is fulfilled in both parent and child.
