The Humble Servant

Let Us Pray

Heavenly Father, teach us to walk in humility. Help us to see that every good gift comes from You. May our lives reflect Christlike servanthood so that we bring glory to Your name. Amen.

Let Us Worship In Song

Introduction

The humble servant trusts God’s timing. Discover how humility before God leads to strength, peace, and exaltation in Christ.  The humble servant reflects God’s grace and demonstrates Christ’s love in everyday life. True humility allows God to lift us up in His perfect timing, and this devotion reminds us that when we humble ourselves, God exalts us.

Life Application

“Let another praise you, and not your own mouth” (Proverbs 27:2). These words caution us against self-exaltation. Instead of seeking recognition, we are called to embrace the role of a humble servant. Every good and perfect gift we enjoy comes from above (James 1:17). Recognizing this truth keeps us grounded and grateful. I was reminded of this lesson during a Celebration of Life service for my dear friend Alan. Over sixty years of shared joys and sorrows gave me the honor of speaking at his service. His sons and close friends exalted him by simply telling the truth about his life of humble servitude. Alan never sought applause, yet God lifted his memory high through the testimony of others.

Humility before God, Exalted by God

That moment revealed the joy and peace that come when a life is lived quietly for God’s glory. Scripture assures us, “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you” (1 Peter 5:6). The exaltation that matters most does not come from men, but from God Himself. Alan’s life reminded everyone that true greatness is not measured in achievements but in quiet, steady faithfulness. We all face times when we want recognition. Yet God calls us to turn away from self-promotion. Instead, He asks us to trust His timing. If we serve humbly, God will exalt us in ways that bring lasting honor. Even in grief, God supplies strength when we lean on Him. He lifted me through prayer support, reminding me that His grace is enough. The humble servant never stands alone, because God Himself upholds them. As you walk into today, consider how you can serve with humility. Maybe it means listening instead of speaking, or helping without expecting thanks. Each act of humble service glorifies the Lord. And in His perfect time, He will lift you up.
