Introduction
Life often feels like a series of tests—career choices, relationships, decisions, and beliefs. We spend years preparing, studying, and striving to “get it right.” Yet Jesus simplifies everything into one defining question—one that outweighs every other test we will ever face: “Who do you say that I am?” (Mark 8:29).
In a world filled with opinions, traditions, and expectations, it’s easy to lean on what others believe. But Jesus brings it down to something deeply personal. Not what your pastor says, or what your family believes, or what culture promotes. But what you believe in your heart.

Reflection
Many of us spend years searching for the “right” church, the “perfect” theology, or a flawless spiritual routine. While these things can be helpful, Jesus makes it clear that salvation does not hinge on affiliation—it hinges on revelation and conviction.
When Jesus asked His disciples what others were saying, they gave Him a variety of answers: John the Baptist, Elijah, one of the prophets. These were respectable opinions. But Jesus pressed deeper—“Who do YOU say that I am?”
That question still echoes today. It cuts through religion, tradition, and secondhand faith. It demands a personal response.
Peter answered boldly, “You are the Messiah.” That declaration didn’t come from popular opinion—it came from a heart that believed. And that is the difference between knowing about Jesus and truly knowing Him.
The Apostle Paul reinforces this truth in Romans 10:9. Salvation is not earned through works or perfected through performance. It is received through belief and confession. It is a matter of the heart.
As Johnny shared, quoting Proverbs 23:7, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” What you truly believe about Jesus shapes everything—your identity, your purpose, your eternity.
You don’t become part of the body of Christ through ritual alone, but through conviction. Not by simply going through motions, but by a transformed heart that declares, “Jesus is Lord.”
As C.S. Lewis once wrote, “I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: ‘I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept His claim to be God.’”
Lewis reminds us that Jesus does not leave room for neutrality. He is either who He says He is—the Son of God—or He is not. The question demands an answer.
