How Firm a Foundation

Introduction

How Firm a Foundation reminds us that Jesus has given us everything we need to stand strong in our faith. This truth serves as our firm foundation for life and eternity.

Main Body

Jesus warned us in Mark 13:23, “But be on guard; I have told you all things beforehand.” He has not left us in the dark. Through His words, we receive guidance, encouragement, and the promise of His presence in every trial. The beloved hymn How Firm a Foundation, written in 1787, echoes this assurance: “What more can He say, than to you He hath said?” Our spiritual foundation is not built on shifting sand but on the eternal truth of God’s promises.

In Him, we find stability when the world shakes, hope when darkness surrounds, and courage when fear tries to overtake us. Our firm foundation rests upon belief in Christ, confession of our sins, repentance from wrongdoing, and baptism into His family. These steps root us deeply in faith, enabling us to stand when others fall. The storms of life may rage, but the believer anchored in Christ cannot be moved. Each day gives us the opportunity to examine where we place our trust. Do we build our lives on the temporary or the eternal? On human wisdom or divine truth? The answer will determine whether our spiritual house stands or collapses.
