Opening Worship Song
“Blessed Assurance” reminds us that our confidence in Christ never wavers, no matter what today holds. Tennessee Ernie Ford’s rich voice carries this old hymn straight into the heart, setting the perfect tone for a devotion about the assurance we have in the Son.
Scripture Focus
John’s first epistle states the matter with beautiful clarity:
He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” (1 John 5:12, KJV)
Paul then explains what happens the moment we receive that life:
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.” (Romans 8:16-17, KJV)
These two passages fit together like puzzle pieces. Because we have the Son, we have life. Because we have life, we become children and heirs. Let’s look at what that means for you today.
Life Application
Life Found in the Son
John’s words leave no room for confusion. Life is not found in good behavior, religious effort, or personal willpower. Life is found in a Person: Jesus Christ. Once you have Him, you have everything that truly matters. Nothing else can substitute for that relationship, and nothing else can replace it.
Adopted Into the Family
Romans 8 takes this truth one step further. The moment the Holy Spirit confirms our sonship, we become heirs of God Himself. Think about that for a moment. You were adopted, not merely rescued. Adoption carries a name, an inheritance, and a permanent place at the table. Consequently, you are no longer an outsider looking in. You belong.
Because of that adoption, Heaven is not only a distant destination. It becomes a present reality wherever Christ dwells. His presence in you brings Heaven’s peace into ordinary Tuesday mornings, tense conversations, and quiet evenings alike. Therefore, you carry a little piece of Heaven with you everywhere you go.
Aligning Your Thinking With Your Identity
Scripture also reminds us, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7, KJV). Our thoughts shape our daily experience of these truths. If you think like an orphan, you will live anxiously, always trying to earn what has already been freely given. However, if you think like a child of God, you will walk in confidence, knowing your Father already calls you His own.
A Simple Invitation Today
So, what does this mean for your day? It means you can stop striving to earn what Christ has already secured for you. Instead, rest in the assurance that comes from belonging to Him. Whatever today brings, you face it as an heir, not as someone struggling alone. That is genuinely good news, and it really is just that simple.
A Word From a Faithful Voice
Charles Spurgeon once said that a believer’s assurance rests entirely on the finished work of Christ rather than on shifting human feelings. That truth echoes exactly what John and Paul describe: our confidence stands on the Son, not on our own performance.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your Son and the life He gives us. Thank You for calling us Your children and making us heirs alongside Christ. Help us think today like people who truly belong to You, resting in Your love rather than striving for approval. Renew our minds and steady our hearts. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Closing Worship Song
“Who You Say I Am” beautifully echoes today’s message of adoption and identity in Christ. Hillsong Worship reminds us that our truest identity comes from what God declares over us, not from our circumstances.
