Life Application
Each of us longs for affirmation. We want assurance that we matter and that our lives have meaning. Therefore, many people look for validation through careers, accomplishments, social standing, church involvement, financial success, or the approval of family and friends.
While these sources of encouragement can be blessings, they are not dependable foundations. Circumstances change. Careers end. Health declines. Positions disappear. Even the opinions of people can shift quickly. Consequently, building our identity solely on human affirmation places us on very thin ice.
The good news of the gospel is that God offers something far greater than affirmation. He offers confirmation.
Romans 8:32 reminds us of the greatest evidence of God’s love. The Father did not spare His own Son. Instead, He willingly gave Jesus Christ for our salvation. This truth demonstrates that God’s love for us is not based upon our performance, achievements, or worthiness. Rather, His love was displayed while we were still far from Him.
Paul writes:
Romans 5:8 (KJV)
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Notice that Christ did not wait for us to become righteous. He did not wait for us to clean up our lives. Instead, He came for broken people, rebellious people, wandering people, and lost sheep. Therefore, our confidence rests in what Christ has done rather than in what we have accomplished.
Furthermore, the confirmation of God’s love never changes because Jesus never changes.
The writer of Hebrews declares:
Hebrews 13:8 (KJV)
“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”
Human affirmation may rise and fall with circumstances. However, Christ’s love remains constant. His promises remain secure, .grace remains sufficient and mercy remains available every day.
The Apostle John brings this beautiful truth to its fulfillment:
1 John 4:19 (KJV)
“We love him, because he first loved us.”
Our love for God is not the starting point. His love for us is. Because He loved us first, we can respond with faith, worship, gratitude, and obedience.
Johnny’s closing memory beautifully illustrates this truth. As a young teenager sitting in his beloved church, he sang the hymn “How Firm A Foundation.” At the time, he could not have known how deeply those words would anchor his life through every season. Yet God did know.
Likewise, many believers can testify that the promises of God have carried them through valleys, disappointments, illnesses, losses, and uncertainties. Therefore, when the world offers only temporary affirmation, Christ provides eternal confirmation.
Today, stand firmly upon His promises. Let your identity rest in His finished work on the cross. Then you will discover a confidence that circumstances cannot shake and a peace that the world cannot take away.

Heavenly Father, thank You for loving us before we ever loved You. Help us stop seeking our identity in the approval of others and find our confidence in Christ alone. Remind us daily that Your love is constant, Your promises are true, and Your grace is sufficient. Lord, thank You for being the same yesterday, today, and forever. Keep our hearts anchored in Your truth and help us walk each day with confidence in Your unfailing love. In Jesus name, Amen.
