Introduction
Discover how to live spiritually ready for Christ’s return with faith, hope, and intentional daily living. “Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” — Matthew 24:44 Life is full of dates we carefully mark on our calendars. We prepare for Christmas gatherings, Easter celebrations, birthdays, anniversaries, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day. We anticipate those special moments because they matter deeply to us. Yet one event remains without a marked date: the return of Jesus Christ.
Jesus reminded His followers that His return would come unexpectedly. However, His words were not spoken to create fear or anxiety. Instead, they were meant to awaken us spiritually and encourage us to live with purpose every single day. Christ calls us to stay alert, faithful, and spiritually prepared.
Readiness is not about achieving perfection. Rather, it is about maintaining a heart that stays close to God. It means walking daily in repentance, faith, obedience, and love. Moreover, it means using every opportunity to encourage others and share the hope we have in Jesus.
When believers live with eternal perspective, ordinary days suddenly carry extraordinary meaning. Small acts of kindness matter. Forgiveness matters. Prayer matters. Worship matters. Loving people matters. Every day becomes an opportunity to honor Christ.

Reflection
Jesus often spoke about readiness. Throughout the Gospels, He used parables about servants waiting for their master, virgins keeping oil in their lamps, and watchmen staying alert during the night. These illustrations all carried the same message: remain spiritually awake.
Unfortunately, it is easy to become distracted by the pressures of daily life. Work responsibilities, financial concerns, political turmoil, family struggles, and personal disappointments can slowly pull our attention away from eternity. Yet Jesus lovingly reminds us that this world is temporary. Our true citizenship is in heaven.
C.S. Lewis wisely said, “Aim at Heaven and you will get earth ‘thrown in’: aim at earth and you will get neither.” His words still ring true today. When our hearts stay focused on Christ, we begin to live differently. We forgive quicker, love deeper, serve more faithfully and worship more sincerely.
What being ready means.
Being ready for Christ’s return does not mean withdrawing from life. In fact, it means engaging life more fully with God-centered purpose. We should work diligently, care for our families, help those in need, and boldly share the Gospel. Every conversation may be an opportunity to point someone toward Jesus.
Additionally, readiness includes guarding our hearts and minds. The enemy constantly attempts to lull believers into spiritual complacency. Therefore, prayer becomes essential. Time in Scripture becomes essential. Fellowship with other believers becomes essential. These practices keep our hearts sensitive to God’s leading.
The truth is that none of us knows how much time we have left on earth. Life can change suddenly. However, for those who belong to Christ, that reality does not produce panic—it produces peace. We know whom we belong to. We know where our eternal home is. Consequently, we can face the future with confidence rather than fear.
The Apostle Paul encouraged believers to live as “children of light.” That means we should not drift through life spiritually asleep. Instead, we should live awake, aware, hopeful, and expectant. Christ could return at any moment, and what a glorious day that will be for those who know Him.
Johnny’s morning thought captures this beautifully: “Let’s live each day as if it were the day Christ returns, embracing every opportunity to love, serve, and spread His hope.” What a wonderful challenge for every believer today.
