Must Jesus Bear The Cross Alone – Ernie Ford

Introduction

What it means to surrender is more than giving up—it’s denying self, transforming daily, and following Christ completely. Accepting Christ brings freedom.  It means aligning our lives with God’s purpose. In this devotion, we’ll explore how surrender transforms us into Christ’s image—one decision at a time.

Surrender Is a Lifestyle of Transformation

“Then Jesus told his disciples, ‘If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.’” (Matthew 16:24) The secular world defines surrender as weakness. But in God’s Kingdom, surrender is strength. True surrender involves:

Jesus exemplified surrender in the Garden of Gethsemane. Though His flesh resisted the suffering ahead, He prayed, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” (Luke 22:42) Jesus didn’t just tell us to surrender—He lived it out. His submission to the Father’s will changed the world and opened the way for our salvation.

Follow Christ

Paul explained how accepting Christ  affects our thoughts and daily lives: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind.” (Romans 12:2) This transformation isn’t instant. Surrender is a process. Each day, we let go of our will, take up our cross, and follow Him. As we do, Christ lives in us and reshapes our priorities, values, and identity. Remember: what we think, we become. “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7) So today, choose to surrender. Not once, but continually. Let Christ reign in your heart, your decisions, and your direction.
