Scripture:
“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us.”
Ephesians 3:20 (ESV)
Introduction
Explore The Bigness of God and break free from limited beliefs. Discover how God exceeds our expectations and imagination. We all have a tendency to think small when it comes to God. Even those of us who have walked with Christ for many years can quietly place limits on what we believe He will do. We pray cautious prayers , set modest expectations, and assume God will act only within the boundaries of what feels reasonable to us.
Yet Scripture challenges that instinct. The God we serve is not confined by our imagination or experience. He is, as Paul reminds us, able to do far more abundantly than anything we ask or even think.
“We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and ambition when infinite joy is offered us.” — C.S. Lewis

When God Corrects Our Small Thinking
God often teaches lasting lessons by gently exposing how small our expectations really are.
In 1987, an eighth-grade girl named Sarah was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor, requiring repeated trips to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The need felt overwhelming.
A community fundraiser was organized involving children from every church in Monticello, Arkansas. Fifteen kids gathered, eagerly volunteering for assignments. Everything was carefully planned—until one final decision remained: the goal.
$2,500 seemed responsible. Reasonable. Safe.
But one young voice—full of faith—insisted the goal should be $7,500. Logic argued back. Experience pushed against it. Eventually, the higher goal was accepted, though quietly doubted.
On September 25, 1987, nearly 100 kids showed up to wash cars.
The final total: $9,370.
Moments like this remind us why daily faith matters.
God uses ordinary people, small acts, and faithful obedience to reveal His greatness.

God Is Bigger Than Our Best Calculations
Ephesians 3:20 does not say God can do a little more than we ask. It says He can do far more abundantly.
This truth applies to our prayers, our fears, our families, and our future. When we shrink God to manageable size, we miss the joy of watching Him reveal His glory.
God taught a lesson that day that still echoes: never underestimate the bigness of God.
Life Application
- Where have you quietly limited God?
- Shape your prayers more by faith than by caution.
- What would it look like to trust God beyond your calculations?
Closing Prayer
Father, forgive us for thinking too small of You. Expand our faith. Help us trust You beyond what we can see or understand. Be magnified in our lives. Amen.
