Do We Submit to God’s Will? – A Devotion on Prayer and Faith

Seek His Will

Introduction

Submitting to God’s will enhances your prayer experience. Learn how alignment with His purposes leads to answered prayers.  Prayer is one of the greatest privileges God has given to His children. Through prayer we come into the presence of the Almighty, speak to Him, and bring our requests before Him. Yet the Bible teaches that the most powerful prayers are not those that simply express our desires, but those that align with God’s will. The apostle John reminds us of this truth when he writes:  “And this is the confidence that we have toward Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” — 1 John 5:14

God invites us to pray boldly, but He also calls us to pray with hearts surrendered to His purposes. When our hearts seek His will above our own, our prayers begin to align with the plans He has already prepared. Instead of trying to persuade God to follow our agenda, we learn to trust His wisdom and follow His perfect plan.

Submitting to God’s Will

Jesus Himself taught the pattern for prayer in what we often call The Lord’s Prayer. At the center of that prayer is a simple yet profound request:

“Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” — Matthew 6:10

This short line reveals the heart of true prayer. We are not merely asking God to bless our plans; we are asking Him to establish His kingdom and accomplish His will in our lives and in the world around us. Submitting to God’s will means trusting that His wisdom is greater than ours and His purposes are always good.

Sometimes God’s will leads us through seasons we do not fully understand. It may involve waiting, sacrifice, or stepping out in faith. But when we remember that our heavenly Father sees the beginning from the end, we can rest in the knowledge that His plan is always perfect.

Jesus emphasized this priority when He taught:

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” — Matthew 6:33

Seeking God’s kingdom means placing Him first in every part of our lives—our decisions, our goals, our relationships, and even our daily thoughts. When our hearts are centered on Him, everything else begins to fall into its proper place.

Faith and the Kingdom of God

The kingdom of God is entered through faith. We trust that God is who He says He is, that His Word is true, and that His plans for us are good even when we cannot see the full picture. Faith allows us to surrender our fears, ambitions, and uncertainties into God’s capable hands.

This surrender is not weakness—it is spiritual strength. When we release control and place our lives in God’s hands, we experience the peace that comes from knowing He is leading us. Faith anchors our hearts in the certainty that God is working for His glory and our good.

The wisdom of Scripture reminds us:

“As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” — Proverbs 23:7

Our thoughts shape our direction. When we fill our hearts with faith, trust, and obedience to God’s will, our lives naturally begin to reflect His purposes.

Life Application

Today, take a moment to examine your prayers. Are you asking God to bless your plans, or are you seeking His will first?

  • Begin your prayers by surrendering your day to God.
  • Ask Him to guide your decisions and align your heart with His purposes.
  • Trust that His will is always wiser and better than your own.
  • Spend time in Scripture so you can recognize His direction more clearly.

When we begin the day seeking God’s will, our perspective changes. Instead of worrying about what might happen, we walk forward confidently knowing God is directing our steps.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for inviting us into Your presence through prayer. Help us to seek Your will above our own desires. Align our hearts with Your kingdom and guide our steps today. Give us faith to trust Your plan even when we do not fully understand it. May our lives reflect Your righteousness and bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
