Affirmation of the Father – God’s Blessing of Identity

Affirmation of the Father

Introduction

Discover the affirmation of the Father. God’s blessing is rooted in relationship, not performance, reminding us of our identity in Him.  Affirmation of the Father is one of the most powerful truths in the Christian life. God’s affirmation is not earned through performance but flows out of His eternal love. In the baptism of Jesus, the Father declared, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Mt 3:17). That same affirmation extends to every believer as His child. This devotion reflects on God’s blessing of identity, not achievement.

Reflection

God affirmed His love for Jesus before He ever performed miracles, healed the sick, or endured the Cross. His affirmation was not dependent on accomplishment but grounded in relationship. A blessing from God is not tied to what we achieve, but to who we are in Him.

Likewise, God affirms you because you are His creation, formed in His image. This truth frees us from striving for approval and anchors us in grace. The affirmation of the Father reminds us that our worth is not in what we do but in who He made us to be.

Editor’s Note: One of my greatest joys has been the opportunity to speak a paternal blessing over each of my grandchildren at birth. Such moments mirror the heart of the Father, who delights in affirming His children.

Life Application

The Apostle Paul reminds us: “The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God” (Romans 8:16). Living in God’s affirmation gives us peace and confidence. Billy Graham once said, “God proved His love on the Cross. When Christ hung and bled, it was God saying to the world, ‘I love you.’” Let His affirmation shape how you view yourself and others.

Daily Checklist:

  • Begin today with gratitude for being God’s beloved child.
  • Pause to remember your worth is rooted in God’s image, not performance.
  • Affirm someone else with words of blessing and encouragement.
  • Pray that the Spirit would remind you of the Father’s love throughout the day.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for affirming us in Your love. Help us to rest in Your blessing, live as Your children, and extend that same affirmation to others. Amen.
