Living in Readiness

Living in Readiness

Let Us Pray

Heavenly Father, prepare our hearts for Your return. Help us walk in truth, peace, and faithfulness every day. Amen.

Let Us Worship In Song

Introduction

Living in readiness is both a biblical command and a heart posture. In Darin & Brooke Aldridge’s song “Jordan,” we are reminded of our spiritual destination—eternity with Christ—and challenged to ask: Are we prepared? The Bible calls us to live every day in a state of spiritual alertness and peace.

Are You Living in Readiness?

Life often feels like a journey toward a distant shore, much like crossing the Jordan River. The song “Jordan,” sent to me recently by my friend Jim F. in Pinehurst, N.C., captures this powerful image. It speaks of the ultimate destination—eternity with Christ—and asks the soul-stirring question: Are you ready?

Scripture makes it clear that readiness isn’t optional. In Luke 12:35-36, Jesus instructs us, “Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, like servants waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet.” This means we must be spiritually awake, living with intention and faith.

Moreover, readiness involves knowing and sharing our hope. 1 Peter 3:15 encourages us, “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” That preparation goes beyond head knowledge; it requires a heart surrendered to Christ and a life that models His love.

Be prepared

Dwight L. Moody famously said, “The world does not need great men, but true and honest men whom God can use.” Be authentic by living a life marked by integrity and openness to God’s purpose. This kind of authenticity reflects Christ and draws others to Him.

Importantly, readiness includes peace in the midst of uncertainty. As Ephesians 6:15 teaches, we must have our “feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.” That peace isn’t passive; it empowers us to move forward boldly, even when life is uncertain. It enables us to encourage others with the same hope we carry.

As you listen to “Jordan,” reflect on your spiritual preparedness. Are you walking daily in alignment with God’s will? Are you allowing Him to shape your responses, actions, and heart? Remember, readiness is not only about anticipating the future—it’s about walking faithfully with God now.

YOU ARE YOUR BROTHER’S KEEPER

Christian friends bearing burdens through prayer and presence
Bearing Burdens

Let Us Pray

Heavenly Father, help us to be mindful of those around us who are hurting. Give us hearts that reflect Your compassion. Show us how to bear one another’s burdens in love. Amen.

Let Us Worship In Song

Introduction

Bearing burdens is how we fulfill the law of Christ. Practice love by showing up, helping others, and being truly present. Bearing burdens fulfills Christ’s call.  Bearing burdens is a tangible way to live out Christ’s command to love others. When we carry each other’s struggles, we fulfill the law of Christ.

How to Fulfill the Law of Christ

“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2)

How exactly do we carry the load for someone else? The answer may be simpler than we think, but it does require action, not just intention. Below are a few ways to make this verse come alive in our daily walk:

  • Pray specifically for relief, peace, or healing for that person. Don’t just say “I’m praying for you”—actually do it!
  • Show up. Help with children, run errands, mow the lawn, or cook a meal. Small actions make a big impact.
  • Send a message. A handwritten note or even a short text says, “I see you and I care.”
  • Call briefly. A few minutes of genuine conversation can lift a heavy heart.
  • Make time. Invite them for lunch, coffee, or simply sit with them. Your presence may mean more than your words.
  • Be authentic. Avoid churchy platitudes and instead offer meaningful support through sincere love.

Fulfill the Law of Christ

The Bible tells us what fulfilling the law of Christ truly means. Jesus gave us two commandments: Love God with all your heart, and love your neighbor as yourself. Bearing someone’s burden is the active form of that love.

We all have moments etched into our memory when someone showed up for us. I’ll never forget when my friend drove three hours to stay the night with me after my son Frank passed away. He shared my sorrow and carried part of my pain.

As Proverbs 23:7 reminds us, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Let your thoughts today be those of kindness, compassion, and a willingness to step into someone else’s storm—even briefly. You might be the very comfort they’ve been praying for.

DOES SATAN KNOW WHO YOU ARE

Warrior in prayer standing firm in spiritual battle, symbolizing that Satan knows your name
Warrior In Prayer

Let Us Pray

Lord Jesus, help us walk so closely with You that both heaven and hell take notice. Let our lives be bold witnesses for Your glory. Amen.

Let Us Worship In Song

Introduction

Does Satan know you? That question forces us to examine how visible our faith is in daily life. It’s also tied to whether we know the voice of Jesus.

In Acts 19:15, we read this chilling verse: “But the evil spirit answered them, ‘Jesus I know, and Paul I recognize, but who are you?’” The context involves some who tried to imitate Paul’s casting out of demons, but they lacked true spiritual authority. The enemy wasn’t concerned with them—because they posed no threat.

Physics tells us that for every action, there’s an equal and opposite reaction. That same principle applies in spiritual warfare. When we live out our calling boldly in Christ, we attract the attention of darkness. Satan gets busy when we get busy for Jesus.

So how can we make hell tremble and heaven cheer? By knowing Christ intimately and acting on His behalf. Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27). We must begin by listening for His voice through prayer, Scripture, and obedience.

Spiritual Warfare

Once we know His voice, we can move boldly in our calling. The late Charlie Daniels had a musical way of reminding us that even the devil knows when he’s been beaten. But the key isn’t just outsmarting Satan—it’s outloving, outserving, and outlasting his schemes with the armor of God firmly in place (Ephesians 6:10–18).

A quote from Harp at Betterman says it well: “We should move in such a way that heaven applauds us and hell knows our name.” That level of spiritual impact isn’t achieved by accident. It’s a result of daily surrender and divine empowerment.

Ask yourself two questions today: Do I know the voice of Jesus? And does Satan know my name? If you can answer yes to both, then you are walking in your divine calling.

As Proverbs 23:7 reminds us, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Think like Christ, live like Christ, and your actions will shake the gates of hell.

Introduction

This devotion calls us to daily worship and highlights the powerful Doxology. Don’t let praise disappear—praise God daily!  Forgotten the praise—this is what happens when we drift from heartfelt worship. Although many praise politicians or sports teams daily, too few lift high the name of God. This devotion encourages us to remember the Doxology and give God the glory.

Lift High the Name of God

“Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever.” (Psalm 145:2)

Praise is not a Sunday-only activity. According to Charles Spurgeon, “Praise is the rehearsal of our eternal song.” That means every time we praise God, we are preparing for heaven. Yet we often forget this practice.

We shout loudly for our favorite teams. Flags fly, bumper stickers shout, and flower beds display yard signs. We openly support people and causes we care about. Why then do we hesitate to boldly praise our Savior?

Jesus died for us. He rose again. He reigns forever. Still, many Christians have forgotten the praise that belongs to Him. Sadly, the Doxology, a simple and powerful song written in 1674, gathers dust in hymnals while we chase modern songs that often lack theological depth.

The words are timeless:

Praise God from whom all blessings flow:
Praise Him all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Is it too old-fashioned? No. It’s too powerful to forget. Whenever I sing it, I lift my hand to the Father in reverent awe. There’s nothing stale about pure praise. When we focus on God and not ourselves, our hearts ignite.

We must return to worship that honors Him above all. Moreover, as Proverbs 23:7 reminds us, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” If your heart is full of praise, your life will reflect that truth. Begin your day in worship, lifting high the name of Jesus Christ. Don’t let the world silence your song.

Introduction – Spiritual refreshment

Early morning renewal begins with Jesus. Find spiritual rest in your quiet place as you seek Him and receive peace and renewal each day.Early morning renewal is a gift designed by God. When we rise early to pray, meditate, or rest in His presence, we receive the spiritual rest that Jesus promised in Matthew 11:28.

Spiritual Renewal in the Morning

God made man to be physical, mental, and spiritual. We need all three aspects to thrive. Although sleep refreshes our body and clears our mind, it is not enough to restore our soul. For this reason, Jesus set the example. He rose early—while it was still dark—and went out alone to pray. That time with His Father renewed Him deeply.

Jesus understood the pressures of ministry and daily life. Yet He never neglected time alone with God. Likewise, we must also seek solitude with the Lord, not only when we are weary, but consistently—so that our spirits do not grow dry.

Jesus offers more than physical rest. He said, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” That rest is not just sleep—it is spiritual rest. It renews our hearts, aligns our thinking, and gives peace that surpasses understanding.

Furthermore, spiritual rest is vital even when our bodies feel strong. A balanced diet and good exercise are helpful, but without soul refreshment, we can quickly grow weary. It’s like trying to drive a car with a flat tire. Eventually, it will break down—no matter how clean the engine is.

So today, as you rise early to greet Jesus in your quiet place, remember this: renewal happens when we intentionally connect with Him. Think on His promises. Rest in His presence. Speak from your heart. And let Him pour peace into your soul.

For as Proverbs reminds us, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7) Our spiritual mindset shapes our life. Choose peace, Jesus and renewal.

Introduction

Only one way leads to eternal life with God. This truth should break our hearts. The Lake of Fire awaits many who reject Christ. Jesus said He is the way, the truth, and the life. That’s not a suggestion—it’s a warning and a promise.

The Tragic Numbers

Every single day, 150,000 people die across the globe. That adds up to 55 million souls each year. But here’s the terrifying truth: only about 30% of the world identifies as Christian. That means over 105,000 people enter a Christ-less eternity every single day. Tragically, they will be separated from God forever.

I’ve had the blessing of traveling throughout all 50 states and 52 countries. I’ve walked through temples, mosques, shrines, cathedrals, and homes of those who practice various faiths. Despite many admirable qualities, none of these belief systems can save the soul. Why? Because Jesus alone is the way to God.

“Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:14–15)

One Way, One Savior

Jesus declared in John 14:6, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” These are not just comforting words for believers—they are marching orders for the Church. People all around us are perishing, many of them forever lost. What are we doing about it?

Some feel uncomfortable sharing their faith, but if we truly believe in heaven and hell, how can we stay silent? Scripture tells us to “go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19). Even if we never leave our hometown, we are surrounded by lost souls. Our silence has eternal consequences.

Let this truth stir us. Let it move us to compassion and action. When we praise God, let us also proclaim His saving name.

Faithful in Little

Faithful in little — hands offering food and kindness
Faithful in little

Let Us Pray

Lord Jesus, teach us to treasure the small tasks You have given us. May we serve others joyfully, knowing that in doing so, we serve You. Amen.

Let Us Worship In Song

Introduction

Faithful in little means honoring Christ in small tasks. Jesus sees our obedience in little things and counts them as service to Him.  Faithful in little is the phrase Jesus used to highlight a spiritual principle that remains true in all seasons. This reflection reminds us that faithfulness in small things is not just important—it is essential to our Christian walk.

“One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.” —Luke 16:10

Back in 10th grade, during the 1958–59 school year, I learned a principle in Plane Geometry that stuck with me for more than 65 years: The whole is equal to the sum of its parts. That concept isn’t just useful in math. It’s a life principle. After all, life is made up of many small parts—daily decisions, simple acts, and tiny moments of obedience.

Jesus called us to do the small things. He handled the biggest thing of all—He died on the cross to save us from our sins. But His instruction to us is beautifully simple and direct: take care of the little things. He tells us that acts of service that seem minor are, in truth, eternally significant.

Small acts of kindness

Consider the list Jesus gave in Matthew 25:31–38:

  • Share food with the hungry
  • Pass extra clothes to the needy
  • Visit a sick person
  • Welcome a stranger
  • Engage in prison ministry

These acts of love cost very little in money—but much in time and intention. That’s why they’re expensive. Many people find it easier to give a hundred-dollar check than to spend an hour visiting a sick person or serving the forgotten. Yet, Jesus said, “When you did it for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you were doing it to me!”

Being faithful in little means seeing these small tasks as sacred. They are not background duties. They are the front lines of God’s kingdom. In every kind act, we’re not just helping someone; we’re honoring Christ.

So today, ask yourself: How faithful have I been in the little things? What small act of love can I offer today that will make a difference in eternity?

Remember Proverbs 23:7: “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Our mindset toward these “small” duties shapes the very person we are becoming.

Christ-like character reflecting God's sanctifying truth
Christ-Like character

Let Us Pray

Lord Jesus, I am your witness. I long to be like you.

I receive your righteousness and release my sinfulness.
lass=”yoast-text-mark” />>I receive your wholeness and release my brokenness.
/>>I receive your fullness and release my emptiness.
>I receive your peace and release my anxiety.
>I receive your joy and release my despair.
>I receive your healing and release my sickness.
>I receive your suffering love and release my ephemeral selfishness.

Come, Holy Spirit, transform my heart, mind, soul, and strength so that my consecration becomes your demonstration; that our lives become your sanctuary.

For the glory of God our Father, amen.

Let Us Worship In Song

Introduction

Christ-like character is key for growth in sanctification.  Receive God’s truth and become more like Jesus each day via surrender and faith. Christ-like character is the measuring stick of growth in sanctification. When we allow God’s truth to reshape us from the inside out, we begin to reflect His nature. Christ-like character isn’t optional—it’s essential. In fact, it’s how we demonstrate the love and truth of Jesus to a world in need.

Growth in Sanctification Requires Christ-like Character

Jesus prayed for His disciples, saying, “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth” (John 17:17). This powerful request wasn’t just for the Twelve. It was for you and me. Sanctification—the lifelong process of becoming holy—starts and ends with God’s Word.

However, it’s more than knowledge. It’s transformation. As Dwight L. Moody once confessed, “I am sure the happiest days of my life have been when I have tried to do the will of God as far as I know it to do.” That’s the heart of sanctification: obedience shaped by truth.

Paul echoed this promise in Philippians 1:6: “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” You are a work in progress. And God finishes what He starts—always.

Still, the path of sanctification is not passive. It requires effort. We must choose daily to release what is false and receive what is true. This is how spiritual maturity grows. For instance, when we release anxiety and receive His peace, we demonstrate Christ within us. When we let go of brokenness and accept His wholeness, we give testimony to God’s healing work in our lives.

In doing so, we exercise our spiritual muscles. We walk not by sight, but by faith. Sanctification is not about being perfect—it’s about being perfected by God through surrender. That surrender, over time, produces Christ-like character in thought, word, and deed.

How Great Is Our God

How Great Is Our God

Introduction

How great is our God—this is more than a question, it’s the cry of a grateful heart. His love is vast, and He does not repay us as our sins deserve. As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions.

Let Us Pray

Lord God Almighty, thank You for Your unfailing love. You do not hold our sins against us but wash us clean through Your mercy. Open our eyes today to see just how great You are. In Jesus’ name, amen.

How Great Is Our God

“*He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.*” — Psalm 103:9–12 The Psalmist David gives us a sweeping vision of God’s mercy. His words reach deep into our spirit, drawing our attention to God’s compassion. Our great God does not dwell in perpetual anger. He is not petty. He does not wait for us to mess up and then punish us. Instead, God gives grace. He is patient with us, even when we are slow to repent.

God’s Boundless Mercy

He chooses love over wrath. God’s mercy is not theoretical—it’s real, active, and deeply personal. He does not treat us as our sins deserve. If He did, none of us could stand. But instead of condemnation, He offers forgiveness. And not just a small pardon—He removes our sins completely, “as far as the east is from the west.” That is infinite distance. That is a full release. His love for those who fear Him is *as high as the heavens*. That means His love reaches beyond understanding, beyond measurement, beyond even our deepest need. So how great is our God? Louie Giglio once said you could look through the Hubble Telescope and see a glimpse. Or you could listen to Chris Tomlin’s song and feel it. Either way, the answer is awe. Worship. Surrender.

Do not carry the weight of guilt today. Your sins have been cast away. Instead, get your arms around the greatness of God. He is not just good—He is better than we could ever imagine.

CONFESSION IS GOOD FOR THE SOUL

A person kneeling in prayer as confession heals their soul
Confession heals our wounds

Introduction

Confession heals our wounds far more effectively than time ever could. As we begin the day, let us remember that “if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive”. This truth, found in 1 John 1:9, reminds us that healing and forgiveness are available—not by denial or delay—but by humbly aligning our hearts with God’s Word through honest confession and repentance.

Let Us Pray

Heavenly Father, we come before You not hiding our faults, but opening our hearts in confession. Cleanse us and restore us, that we may walk in the light of Your truth. Amen.

Confession Heals Our Wounds

“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

1 John 1:8-9

Time does not heal all wounds. That saying may sound comforting, but Scripture offers something far more powerful: confession. When we bring our sin before God with sincere repentance, He doesn’t delay. He forgives, cleanses and restores.

Confession is more than just admission. Admission is a bare acknowledgment—“I did it.” Confession is deeper; it’s a spiritual act of aligning our hearts with God’s truth. It is sorrowful and humble. It says, “God, You are right, and I have fallen short.”

Many wounds linger not because God withholds grace, but because we withhold honesty. Pride and self-preservation can hinder the healing that only confession brings. God is not waiting to punish us. He’s waiting to forgive us.

This morning, as we shower to cleanse our bodies, let us also cleanse our souls through confession. Think about the words of Proverbs 23:7: “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” What dwells in our hearts matters—and through confession, we invite God to shape those thoughts according to His righteousness.

Let us not deceive ourselves. Let us instead confess and be cleansed. His mercy is more, and His grace is waiting.
