Thank You, Jesus
Discover how to give thanks in all circumstances and find peace through Jesus’ love, even on difficult days. Some days, thankfulness comes easily. The sun is shining, the bills are paid, and the people we love are healthy. Other days feel heavy. Still, the Bible gently invites us to say, “Thank You, Jesus,” on both kinds of days. That is not because every circumstance is good. Rather, it is because our Savior is always good. So pour a cup of coffee, settle in, and let’s discover together why a grateful heart is God’s will for you.

Opening Worship Song: Thank You Lord for Your Blessings
This joyful live performance invites us to stop and count the blessings God has poured into our lives. It is a wonderful way to tune our hearts to thanksgiving before we open His Word.
Scripture Focus
The psalmist begins with a joyful call to the whole earth:
“Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth!” — Psalm 100:1 (ESV)
He also tells us why our thanks never runs dry:
“Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever.” — Psalm 136:26 (ESV)
Paul reveals that gratitude is not just a feeling. It is God’s will for every believer:
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (ESV)
He reminds us that our thanks flows through the name of Jesus:
Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” — Ephesians 5:20 (ESV)
Next, he shows how peace and gratitude belong together:
And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.” — Colossians 3:15 (ESV)
Finally, he calls us to carry thanksgiving to everyone around us:
“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people.” — 1 Timothy 2:1 (ESV)
Taken together, these verses paint a beautiful picture. Thankfulness is not reserved for easy days. Instead, it is a way of living that keeps our eyes fixed on Jesus. So what does that look like on an ordinary Thursday?
Life Application: Give Thanks in All Circumstances
In All Circumstances, Not Just Good Ones
Notice what Paul actually wrote. He did not tell us to give thanks for every circumstance. Instead, he told us to give thanks in all circumstances. That small word makes a big difference.
God does not ask you to celebrate a hard diagnosis, a job loss, or a broken relationship. However, He does invite you to thank Him in the middle of them. Why? Because He is still present, still faithful, and still working.
Psalm 136 repeats one truth twenty-six times: His steadfast love endures forever. Circumstances change. His love never does. Paul knew this from experience, since he wrote some of his most joyful letters while in chains. Consequently, his gratitude was not shallow optimism. It was confidence in Christ.
Thankfulness Begins at the Cross
Every reason for thanks leads back to Jesus. That is why Ephesians tells us to give thanks in His name. Every blessing we receive flows through Him.
Think about it. Once we were lost, and He found us. Although we were blind, He opened our eyes. Most importantly, Jesus left heaven’s glory, carried our sin to the cross, and walked out of the grave three days later. As a result, death has lost its sting.
So even on your hardest day, you can say, “Thank You, Jesus.” The cross settles the question of whether God loves you. Meanwhile, the empty tomb settles the question of whether He can help you.
Practicing a Thankful Heart Today
Gratitude grows like a garden. It needs daily attention. Here are a few simple ways to cultivate it:
- Begin your morning by naming three blessings before you check your phone.
- Thank God out loud during your drive, while washing dishes, or on a walk.
- When worry knocks, answer it with a prayer of thanks for God’s past faithfulness.
- Write a short note of thanks to someone who has encouraged your faith.
Then watch what happens to your heart. Colossians tells us to let the peace of Christ rule within us, and then it simply adds, “And be thankful.” Peace and gratitude travel together. Therefore, a thankful heart soon becomes a calmer heart.
Gratitude That Reaches Others
Thankfulness is never meant to stay private. In 1 Timothy, Paul urges us to offer thanksgiving for all people. That includes your family, your neighbors, your church, and even the coworker who tests your patience.
When you thank God for people, you begin to see them the way He does. Likewise, bitterness starts to lose its grip. Your home, your workplace, and your friendships become warmer places because a grateful believer lives there.
So today, whatever you are facing, choose to give thanks in all circumstances. Make a joyful noise to the Lord. You may not understand everything, but you know the One who holds everything. And He is worthy of every “Thank You, Jesus” you can offer.
A Word of Encouragement
We ought to give thanks for all fortune: if it is ‘good,’ because it is good, if ‘bad’ because it works in us patience, humility and the contempt of this world and the hope of our eternal country.” — C. S. Lewis
Lewis reminds us that God wastes nothing. Even our hardest seasons can deepen our hope in the home Jesus is preparing for us.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You. Thank You for Your steadfast love that never runs out, even when my strength does. Lord Jesus, thank You for leaving heaven, for taking my sin to the cross, and for rising again so I could live. Forgive me for the times I have grumbled instead of giving thanks. Teach me to see Your hand in every season, the bright days and the hard ones. Let Your peace rule in my heart today. Help me to thank You for the people around me and to love them well. Give me wisdom and strength for whatever lies ahead. I trust You, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Closing Worship Song: Thank You Jesus for the Blood
Charity Gayle leads this powerful anthem of gratitude. It remembers a life once lost and blinded by sin, then celebrates Jesus leaving His throne to pay our debt at Calvary. The song rejoices that His blood washes us clean and carries us from darkness into His light. Its bridge points to the empty tomb, where Jesus rose after three days and took away the sting of death. It is the perfect response to today’s message: “Thank You, Jesus.”
