Let Us Pray

Heavenly Father, strengthen our faith through the truth of Your Word. Help us trust in the certainty of Your promises. Amen.

Blessed Assurance – Tennessee Ernie Ford

Introduction

Bible prophecy statistics strengthen our assurance in God’s Word. When we see how many predictions have been fulfilled, we find confidence that the same God who spoke these truths still guides us today. This message shows that our faith rests not on chance, but on the certainty of God’s promises.

Main Body

My friend often says he is still “early” in his spiritual journey. Yet by his actions and words, I see him further along Christ’s path than he realizes. Seeking, questioning, and living faith are marks of a heart open to God.

The Bible contains 1,817 prophecies. Of these, 1,239 appear in the Old Testament and 578 appear in the New Testament. Together, they span more than 8,000 verses of Scripture. Clearly, prophecy forms a major theme throughout the Bible.

Regarding fulfillment, some scholars estimate that about 80% of biblical prophecy already stands fulfilled. Others calculate that at least half has come to pass with complete precision. Either way, the numbers are staggering. Moreover, they remind us that God always keeps His Word.

Mathematician Peter Stoner, whose work the American Scientific Affiliation reviewed and affirmed, calculated the odds of prophecy fulfillment. The probability of just 8 prophecies being fulfilled by chance equals 1 in 1017. For 48 prophecies, the probability drops to 1 in 10157. Clearly, such odds move beyond human comprehension.

To illustrate, Stoner compared it to covering the state of Texas two feet deep in silver dollars, marking one coin, and then asking a blindfolded person to pick it up on the first try. That is the likelihood of fulfilling just eight prophecies. As a result, when we multiply that by hundreds of fulfilled prophecies, the conclusion becomes undeniable: the fulfillment of Bible prophecy cannot be explained by chance.

This truth strengthens our faith. God speaks with exactness, and His Word stands firm. Therefore, His promises remain sure, and His prophecies remind us that faith is not built on chance but on the eternal Word of God.
