Which Way Will You Choose?

Let Us Pray

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us both warning and hope. Help us to live in the light of eternity and to choose the way of Christ. Amen.

Introduction

Which way will you choose? The Bible asks which way will you choose: eternal life in Christ or eternal punishment in Hell.  Which way will you choose? This question points to eternity and invites us to reflect on Heaven and Hell. The Bible clearly warns of Hell, but it also offers the promise of eternal life in Christ.

Life Application

I grew up in a Southern Baptist church where the pulpit proclaimed both Heaven and Hell. In today’s world, where distractions abound and morality often bends, we may need to hear more about Hell. The Bible references Hell more than seventy times, reminding us of the seriousness of sin and the certainty of judgment. Consider the words of Jesus: “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels’” (Matthew 25:41). This is not just symbolic language. It is a stark reality that points to eternal separation from God.

Revelation speaks of torment, fire, and everlasting destruction. These are not comfortable truths, but they are necessary warnings. At times, life feels like standing at a crossroads. One path is wide and smooth, yet it leads to destruction. The other is narrow and sometimes difficult, but it ends in eternal life. Josh Turner’s song “Long Black Train” paints a vivid picture of temptation and sin. That train looks powerful, alluring, and unstoppable as it thunders down the tracks. Yet, it is bound for destruction, and everyone who boards it will discover too late that it leads only to sorrow. Many people hear its whistle and feel drawn to it, but Christ calls us to step away and walk instead on the path of light.

Eternal life OR Eternal punishment

Hell is real, but so is Heaven. Sin is real, but so is salvation. Through Christ, we are given a choice. Which way will you choose? When we surrender our lives to Jesus, Hell no longer holds power over us. His sacrifice on the cross paid the penalty we deserve, and His resurrection secured our hope. Reading the Bible brings wisdom to our daily choices. Through prayer, we speak to God; through Scripture, He speaks to us.

This is the path of eternal life. This is the way of peace. Think of eternity as a destination. Every decision in life moves us closer to it. Some people ride that “long black train,” ignoring the warnings. Others listen for the voice of the Shepherd and walk in His light. Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). That truth makes the choice clear. Eternity is set before us.

Which way will you choose?  It is a Question that deserves an answer …. now.
