Reflections on Apologetics 2 of 4 — The Evidence Is There

Explore the historical evidence for Christianity and the resurrection of Jesus in this encouraging devotional reflection.  What if Christianity is not merely comforting philosophy or inspiring moral teaching—but rooted in real events that unfolded in history?  That question matters deeply. Because if Jesus truly lived, died, and rose again, then the Gospel is not symbolic encouragement. It is truth that changes eternity.  In this second reflection on apologetics, we continue wandering and wondering through the foundations of faith. Last time we explored whether belief in God makes logical sense. This week we move into another important question: Is Christianity historically true?

Reflections on Apologetics #1 — Reasoned Faith: It makes Sense

Discover how Christianity offers a reasoned faith grounded in truth, morality, creation, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Apologetics – a reasoned defense of the Christian faith, including defending the gospel..  There are four main kinds of apologetics.  I plan to “wander around and wonder “ about each of them for the next  four weeks.  I will share my reflections  as I wander and wonder.   “Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord…” — Isaiah 1:18  “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” — Psalm 19:1

Have You Been to the Cross? Devotion – Calvary and Redemption

Reflect on the Cross devotional to understand its personal significance and the intentional love of Jesus for all.  Have you ever paused long enough to truly consider what happened at the Cross? Not just as a historical event, but as a deeply personal moment—one that involved you and me. Scripture tells us:  “When they came to the place that is called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on His right and one on His left.” (Luke 23:33)

Salvation by Grace Through Faith in Jesus Christ

Discover the simplicity of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and rest in God’s finished work.  Been wondering about salvation as I wandered this week. The older I get, the more I realize that the greatest question a person can ever ask is the same one asked long ago: “What must I do to be saved?” It is not a complicated theological puzzle. It is not a ladder we climb. It is not a score we try to beat. Salvation is a gift—simple, profound, and life-changing.

The Child Who Grew to Be Our Savior

Reflect on the impact of The Child Who Grew to Be Our Savior, highlighting the growth and wisdom of Jesus as foretold in Scripture.  Christmas invites us to linger at the manger, to marvel at the wonder of God made flesh. Yet Scripture gently urges us not to stop there. The Child in the cradle did not remain an infant. He grew, learned, obeyed, suffered, and ultimately reigned. Luke’s Gospel gives us rare glimpses into the hidden years of Jesus’ life, reminding us that the eternal Son truly entered our human story. From the manger to the cross to the crown, God’s redemptive plan unfolded with purpose, humility, and glory.

Herod’s Rage and God’s Protection

Introduction Learn how God’s protection of Jesus shines through the challenges of His early life, highlighting His sovereign plan.  The Christmas story does not end with angels and shepherds. It moves quickly into darker territory—into the halls of power where fear and pride clash with God’s redemptive plan. Herod’s rage stands in sharp contrast to […]

God in the Flesh – Grace Upon Grace at Christmas

Discover the significance of God in the Flesh. Christmas marks the moment when God entered human experience to bring redemption.  Christmas proclaims one of the most profound truths ever revealed: God did not remain distant from humanity. He stepped into time, space, and human experience. John declares that “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us,” revealing that the eternal God took on human nature to live among His creation. This is not poetic symbolism—it is divine reality.

The Word Who Was with God and Is God

Explore this Advent devotion reflecting on Jesus as the eternal Word, foretold by prophets and revealed as God with us.  Before there was light, before there was life, the Word already was. Advent draws our hearts back to the deepest mystery of Christmas: the Child we await did not begin in Bethlehem. He stepped into time from eternity. John opens his Gospel not with a manger, but with eternity itself: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). Written near the close of the first century, these words echo Genesis and declare that Jesus Christ is no created being, prophet or teacher, but God Himself, active before creation ever began.
