“We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves.” — Romans 15:1 (ESV)
Paul’s message to the believers in Rome encourages sharing blessings. He calls the strong—whether in body, finances, or spirit—to support those in need, not for personal gain, but for the good of the community.
Give Generously Without Expectation
Paul intended to unify the body of Christ. Therefore, his instruction in Romans 15:1 is not merely a suggestion but a command rooted in love. Strength—whether in wealth, wisdom, or will—should actively lift others instead of elevating oneself.
Moreover, Jesus Himself said, “Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required” (Luke 12:48). This teaching highlights accountability: when God blesses us, He expects us to be a blessing in return.
Serve the Household of Faith
Paul reiterates this principle in Galatians 6:10: “So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” First, our faith family should experience our care. Then, our goodness should naturally overflow to others.
In addition, our blessings are not meant to be hoarded. God gives them to be shared. Being a good steward requires distribution, not accumulation. Through action, we meet needs and demonstrate Christ’s love.
