Morning Prayer:Lord Jesus, thank You for Your undeserved mercy. Open our hearts to trust Your gift of salvation and let our lives show the fruit of that grace. Amen.
Introduction
Discover how being saved by grace shapes our faith and produces good deeds. Trust in God’s gift of salvation today. Saved by grace: that is the heart of the gospel. Saved by God’s grace — faith, not works, brings salvation and produces thankful good deeds. When we trust Christ, the gift of salvation rests on God’s mercy, not on our performance.
Scripture
Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV): “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.”
Romans 11:6 (NIV): “And if by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.”
Ephesians 2:8-9. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them.
John 3:16 (NIV): “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.”
Reflection
Faith is trust in Christ’s finished work — not a ledger of good deeds. When recently one on my prayer list asked whether God decides our fate by our actions, I answered that the gospel calls us only to repent and have faith in Christ for salvation.. Indeed, repentance and faith receive God’s free gift of salvation. When that gift changes the heart, obedient love and good works naturally follow.
In other words, good works are the fruit of salvation, not its purchase price. This frees us from performance anxiety and lets us serve from gratitude.
As my brother-in-law Dr. Joe Logan wisely put it: “Christ did not save us because we are worthy. We are worthy because Christ saved us.” That truth humbles and motivates us at once.
Life Application
Scripture Reference: James 2:17 — “Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”
Practical Takeaway: Examine one area where you try to earn approval. Replace striving with simple trust and let one grateful action flow from that trust today.
- Practical Checklist — Daily Action Steps:
- ✔ Morning: Read John 3:16 and thank God for the gift of salvation.
- ✔ Midday: Offer one small, practical kindness to someone (a call, a text, a prayer).
- ✔ Evening: Journal one way you saw grace at work in you today.

Add Ephesians 2:10 to Ephesians 2:8-9. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them.
As you said, salvation is by grace. There is nothing that we can do to earn salvation. If there had been, then Jesus would not have had to die for us to be saved!
Appreciate this insight Joe.
