In a world full of broken promises, God’s Word calls us to be people of truth. Our integrity is proven not only by the promises we make but also by the ones we keep. As James writes, we are not to swear empty oaths or make bold claims to impress. Instead, we are to be reliable. Let your “yes” carry weight. Let your “no” hold meaning. Your credibility as a Christian depends on it.
John C. Maxwell put it this way: “When you make a commitment, you create hope. When you keep a commitment you create trust.” Keeping your word builds trust with others—and reflects the nature of the God we serve, who always keeps His promises.
God’s Word says that we will be judged for careless words. Let that shape the way you speak. Be honest. Be consistent. Be known as someone whose word can be trusted. That is how we reflect Christ in everyday conversation.
Let us stand firm in our promises to God, to others, and to ourselves—because we stand on His promises first.
