Introduction
Glimpses of God. Have you ever experienced a moment when God seemed so near that you knew He was at work? Those moments often come quietly. They cannot always be explained, but they strengthen our faith and remind us that our Heavenly Father is always present. Sometimes they arrive through answered prayer or unexpected kindness. Sometimes through extraordinary sacrifice. Today I want to share one of those precious glimpses of God.

Life Application
I write this on July 6, 2026, having just finished one of the most encouraging telephone conversations I have enjoyed in quite some time. The Lord has recently blessed me with a new friend in Tennessee. We had several matters to discuss, but what touched my heart most was his response to last Sunday’s devotion and prayer. You may refresh your memory here if you wish:
He quietly shared that he, too, has experienced remarkable glimpses of God throughout his life.
Then he told me a story that I doubt many people have ever heard.
Years ago, one of his mentors desperately needed a kidney transplant. My friend simply told the man’s wife, “Please let me know if there is anything I can do.”
The following day she called.
“Did you really mean that?” she asked.
“My husband needs a kidney. The chances are extremely small that you would be a match, but if you’re willing to be tested, at least you’ll receive a complete free physical examination.”
After reflection and prayer, my friend agreed.
To everyone’s amazement, he proved to be a perfect match.
Now came the difficult decision.
Giving away one of your kidneys is not something anyone should enter lightly. He sought God’s direction with earnest prayer, asking the Lord to make His will unmistakably clear.
The next morning , following his normal routine, he finished exercising at the YMCA. Near the exit sat a bowl containing slips of paper with Bible verses printed on them.
As he did each morning , he reached into the bowl and selected one.
When he unfolded the paper, these words stared back at him:
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13)
These were not merely words.
They were the very words Jesus spoke to His disciples only hours before He willingly went to Calvary to lay down His own life for every one of us.
Was that merely coincidence?
I do not believe so.
C.S. Lewis often spoke of those unexpected moments when heaven seems to break through the ordinary—those unmistakable reminders that God is nearer than we imagine. He described them as moments that awaken our hearts to God’s presence ….as “Glimpses of God.”
I believe my friend experienced one of those moments.
With complete humility, he donated his kidney.
His friend lived.
What impresses me even more is that he almost never tells the story. He seeks no applause. No recognition. No praise from men.
If you thanked him today, he would almost certainly smile and simply say, “To God be the glory.”
That response may be the greatest testimony of all.
God still speaks.
He still guides….still answers prayer… still places people exactly where they need to be at precisely the right moment.
The challenge for us is not that God has stopped working.
The challenge is that we often become too busy to notice.
Every day God leaves fingerprints throughout our lives. They appear in answered prayers, unexpected provisions, divine appointments, timely Scriptures, encouraging conversations, beautiful sunsets, the laughter of children, faithful friends, and countless blessings we too often overlook.
If we slow down, open our eyes, quiet our hearts, and intentionally seek Him, we will begin seeing “glimpses of God” everywhere.
The more we recognize His presence, the more our faith grows.
The more our faith grows, the more our lives become living testimonies that point others to Jesus Christ.
Perhaps today God is inviting you to notice His fingerprints in your own story.
When you do, give Him all the glory.
After all, every good and perfect gift comes from Him alone.
Reflections
My friend’s story reminds me that miracles are not always dramatic events that make headlines. More often, they unfold quietly in ordinary lives through ordinary people who are willing to say, “Yes, Lord.”
Jesus did not simply teach about sacrificial love. He demonstrated it on the cross. Every act of genuine love we witness reflects, however faintly, His perfect love for us.
That is why stories like this matter. They are not meant to glorify people. They are meant to glorify God.
Glimpses of God
Throughout my own life, I have experienced many of these glimpses of God. Some have come through answered prayers that could not be explained. Others have come through unexpected friendships, timely encouragement, or Scripture that spoke directly to a need I had not shared with anyone.
Perhaps you have experienced them as well.
Maybe it was the peace that came during a difficult diagnosis.
Perhaps it was the stranger whose kindness arrived at exactly the right moment.
Maybe it was the Bible verse that seemed written especially for your circumstances.
Or perhaps it was the unmistakable assurance that God was walking beside you through one of life’s darkest valleys.
These moments strengthen our faith because they remind us that our God is not distant. He is present, involved and always working behind the scenes, even when we cannot immediately see His hand.
As followers of Christ, let us cultivate spiritual eyes that recognize His presence every day. Let us listen more carefully, pray more earnestly and expect God to reveal Himself—not because He owes us a sign, but because He delights in walking with His children.
The Apostle Paul reminds us that “we walk by faith, not by sight.” Yet our gracious Father occasionally allows us to catch wonderful glimpses of His loving presence along the journey.
Those moments become anchors for our faith.
They remind us that we are never alone and encourage us to trust Him more fully.
Most importantly, they point us to Jesus Christ, who is the greatest revelation of God’s love the world has ever known.
My friend would never seek recognition for giving away his kidney.
He would simply say:
“To God be the glory.”
I cannot think of a better ending to his remarkable story.
Nor can I think of a better prayer for our own lives.
May we live in such a way that when others notice Christ in us, all the glory belongs to Him.
Let Us Pray
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for revealing Yourself in both extraordinary and ordinary moments. Open our eyes to recognize Your presence each day. Help us to hear Your voice through Your Word, to trust Your guidance, and to follow wherever You lead. Give us hearts that are willing to serve, to sacrifice, and to love as Jesus loved us. May our lives point others to Christ, and may everything we do bring glory to Your holy name.
In the precious name of Jesus, we pray.
Amen.
