Introduction
“Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth.”
— 1 Samuel 3:9 (KJV)
Open Me Lord is a heartfelt prayer of complete surrender, inviting God to open every part of your life to His transforming presence. Prayer is far more than presenting requests to God. True prayer opens every part of our being to His transforming presence. It is possible to speak many words to Heaven while still keeping parts of our heart closed. However, when we sincerely surrender ourselves to the Lord, He begins shaping not only what we say, but also how we hear, think, see, speak, walk, and live.
During a quiet Bible study on December 9, 2025, I wrote the following simple prayer. It remained tucked away in my “Unfinished Devotions” notes for many months. I often jot down thoughts that God impresses upon my heart and return to them later to pray, reflect, and wonder what the Lord might still be teaching me.
One day I came back to these words, and they spoke to me even more deeply than when I first typed them.
Our Father, open my…
ears to hear Your Word.
mind to understand Your message.
eyes to see Your beauty.
ears to hear Your whispers.
lips to share Your message.
hands to do Your work.
feet to walk Your path.
resources to build Your kingdom.
and heart to embrace Your Son as my Savior and Your Holy Spirit as my daily Guide.
In Jesus’ holy name. Amen.
I like this prayer because, to me, it represents complete surrender to God. Every line expresses a willingness to let Him reshape every part of life. Instead of merely asking God to bless our plans, it asks Him to direct our thoughts, our words, our actions, and ultimately our hearts.
Several years ago I purchased a painting from an artist who told me he had completed it in only a few minutes. He smiled and quietly said, “God was guiding my fingertips.”
His words reminded me of another unforgettable moment.
More than twenty years ago I underwent quadruple bypass surgery. My surgeon literally held my beating heart in his hands and even bypassed the dreaded “widow-maker” artery without stopping my heart. Later I asked him how he could possibly perform such delicate work.
He answered,
“I watch my hands through microscopic glasses, and they almost feel disconnected. It’s like God is in my fingertips.”
When I first wrote this little prayer, I experienced something similar. As my fingers moved across the keyboard, the words seemed to come from somewhere beyond myself. It felt as though God was guiding my fingertips too.
Those are exquisite moments.
They are precious glimpses of God’s presence in ordinary life.

Life Application
Open My Ears to Hear Your Word
Faith begins by listening.
Romans 10:17 reminds us,
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Every day countless voices compete for our attention. News headlines demand our focus. Social media shouts for our approval. Fear whispers. Pride argues. Busyness distracts. Consequently, many believers struggle to hear the gentle voice of the Good Shepherd.
Samuel heard God’s voice only after learning to answer,
“Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth.”
That remains one of the greatest prayers any Christian can pray.
God still speaks today—primarily through His written Word, illuminated by the Holy Spirit. Sometimes He convicts us. Sometimes He comforts us. Sometimes He simply reminds us of promises we desperately need at exactly the right moment.
The question is not whether God still speaks.
The question is whether we are listening.
Open My Mind to Understand Your Message
Hearing alone is not enough.
Understanding transforms hearing into obedience.
Throughout Christ’s earthly ministry the disciples frequently heard His teaching while missing His meaning. Yet after His resurrection Jesus lovingly opened their understanding so they could finally see God’s plan unfolding before their eyes.
Many of us experience the same struggle.
Some prayers seem unanswered.
Some trials appear unfair.
Some seasons make very little sense.
Yet God is always working, even when we cannot yet understand what He is doing.
He is not merely filling our minds with information.
He is transforming them into the likeness of Christ.
Open My Eyes to See Your Beauty
David prayed,
“Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.”
What a beautiful request.
God’s fingerprints surround us every day.
They appear in breathtaking sunrises.
They shine through the laughter of children.
They reveal themselves in unexpected kindness, answered prayer, quiet peace, and undeserved mercy.
Unfortunately, hurried lives often produce hurried hearts.
We can rush through an entire day without noticing the countless reminders of God’s goodness.
Jesus repeatedly opened blind eyes during His ministry.
Each miracle pointed beyond restored eyesight to something far greater—the glory of God revealed through His Son.
When the Lord opens our spiritual eyes, ordinary moments become sacred moments.
Everyday experiences become glimpses of eternity.
Open My Lips, Hands, and Feet
When God transforms the heart, He also transforms the life.
Christianity was never intended to remain private. The love of Christ naturally overflows into our conversations, our service, and our daily walk with Him.
When the Lord called Isaiah, the prophet responded without hesitation:
Isaiah 6:8 (KJV)
“Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”
May that become our prayer as well.
Open my lips to speak words that encourage rather than discourage.
Open my hands to serve instead of waiting to be served.
Open my feet to walk wherever Christ leads, even when the path is unfamiliar.
Some believers travel across oceans to proclaim the Gospel. Others faithfully serve in their own neighborhoods. Some teach children. Some visit the lonely. Some prepare meals. Some quietly pray behind the scenes where no one notices except God.
Every act of obedience matters.
Every cup of cold water offered in Christ’s name matters.
Every kind word matters.
Every faithful step matters.
God delights in using ordinary people who make themselves completely available to Him.
Open My Resources to Build Your Kingdom
Everything we possess ultimately belongs to God.
Our time.
Our talents.
Our abilities.
Our finances.
Our influence.
Our opportunities.
None of these are truly ours. They have been entrusted to us by our Heavenly Father for His purposes.
Jesus taught:
Matthew 6:21 (KJV)
“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
Generosity is far more than writing a check.
It is an attitude of surrender.
When we willingly place everything in God’s hands, He often multiplies our efforts far beyond what we could imagine. Sometimes He uses our resources to support missionaries. At other times He uses a simple conversation, a helping hand, or an unexpected act of kindness to change someone’s eternity.
A surrendered life always becomes a generous life.
Open My Heart to Receive Jesus
The final line of this prayer is the foundation for every other line.
Without Jesus Christ, spiritual ears remain closed.
Spiritual eyes remain blind.
The mind cannot fully understand God’s truth.
The hands lack eternal purpose.
The feet wander without direction.
The heart remains separated from God.
Jesus declared:
John 14:6 (KJV)
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
Salvation begins when we humbly receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
The Holy Spirit then begins the lifelong work of transforming us from the inside out.
God never forces His way into our lives.
Instead, He lovingly invites us to open the door.
Perhaps the greatest prayer any of us can pray today is simply this:
“Lord, open me completely to You.”
A Thought Worth Remembering
“God is more interested in your availability than your ability.”
— Rick Warren
When we place ourselves completely in God’s hands, He is able to accomplish far more than we could ever accomplish through our own strength.
Life Application
Take a few quiet moments today and slowly pray through each line of the prayer from the Introduction.
Pause after every phrase and allow the Holy Spirit to search your heart.
Ask yourself:
- Am I truly listening for God’s voice each day?
- Have distractions crowded out time with Him?
- Is my mind being renewed through His Word?
- Do I notice God’s beauty and blessings around me?
- Are my words bringing hope and encouragement?
- Are my hands serving others with Christlike love?
- Are my feet following His leading wherever He calls?
- Am I using my time, talents, and resources to build God’s kingdom?
- Most importantly, have I fully surrendered my heart to Jesus Christ and welcomed the daily guidance of His Holy Spirit?
This week, consider writing this simple prayer on a card, placing it inside your Bible, or keeping it beside your computer. Pray it every morning before beginning your day.
You may discover, as I did, that God delights in guiding willing hearts—and sometimes even willing fingertips.
Watch carefully for those quiet moments when you sense His presence.
They may become your own exquisite glimpses of God.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Open every part of my life to Your loving presence and faithful guidance.
Open my ears to hear Your Word.
Open my mind to understand Your truth.
Open my eyes to recognize Your beauty and Your hand at work around me.
Open my lips to speak words that honor Christ.
Open my hands to serve others with humility and compassion.
Open my feet to walk faithfully wherever You lead.
Open my resources so they may be used to build Your kingdom and bless others.
Most of all, keep my heart completely surrendered to Jesus Christ, my Savior and Lord, and fill me each day with the wisdom, comfort, and power of Your Holy Spirit.
May every part of my life bring glory to You.
In the precious name of Jesus I pray.
Amen.
