Introduction
Explore the message of mercy and grace in the Bible, as blessings come ‘All Because of Mercy’ and not from our own merit. All because of mercy is the beautiful truth that every blessing we receive from God comes through His amazing grace and not because we deserve it.
Opening Scripture
Luke 6:36 (KJV)
“Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.”
Matthew 5:7 (KJV)
“Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.”
Hebrews 4:16 (KJV)
“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”

Mercy Changes Everything
One of the greatest words in the entire Bible is mercy.
Justice gives us what we deserve.
Grace gives us what we do not deserve.
Mercy withholds the punishment we deserve because of God’s great love.
Every believer has experienced God’s mercy. None of us earned salvation, deserved forgiveness, or could erase even one sin through our own efforts. Left to ourselves, we stood guilty before a holy God. Yet because Jesus Christ willingly died on the cross and rose again, God offers forgiveness to everyone who believes in Him.
The hymn writer could easily have summed up every Christian testimony with three simple words:
All because of mercy.
How often we forget this truth. Success can make us proud. Comfort can make us self-sufficient. Religious activity can tempt us to believe God somehow owes us His favor. Scripture reminds us that everything we have begins with God’s mercy.
The Apostle Peter wrote:
1 Peter 1:3 (KJV)
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
Notice that Peter does not point to our goodness.
He points to God’s abundant mercy.
Our hope is not built upon our performance but upon Christ’s finished work. Every answered prayer, every forgiven sin, every new beginning, every spiritual victory, and every promise of eternal life comes because God delights in showing mercy.
That truth should fill our hearts with humility.
Instead of asking, “What have I earned?” we begin asking, “How can I thank the One who has shown me such incredible mercy?”
Mercy Is New Every Morning
Jeremiah witnessed the destruction of Jerusalem. He saw heartbreak, suffering, and loss beyond imagination. Yet in the middle of the darkest circumstances, he proclaimed one of Scripture’s greatest promises.
Lamentations 3:22–23 (KJV)
“It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”
God’s mercy never runs out.
Yesterday’s failures do not exhaust His compassion.
Today’s struggles do not surprise Him.
Tomorrow’s needs are already known to Him.
Every sunrise reminds us that God is still extending mercy to His children.
That does not encourage us to continue in sin. Rather, His mercy leads us to repentance, deeper gratitude, and greater obedience. The believer who truly understands mercy desires to honor the Savior who paid such a great price for redemption.
Jesus also calls us to extend that same mercy to others.
Forgiving someone who has hurt us is difficult.
Showing compassion to difficult people is challenging.
Offering grace instead of revenge goes against our natural instincts.
Yet Jesus said:
Luke 6:36 (KJV)
“Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.”
The mercy we have received becomes the mercy we extend.
When we remember how much Christ has forgiven us, our hearts become softer toward others.
Merciful people become living demonstrations of God’s love in a world desperately needing hope.

Life Application (Continued)
Mercy Gives Us Confidence
Many believers struggle with feelings of unworthiness. We remember our failures far more readily than we remember God’s promises. Satan delights in reminding us of our past, but God continually points us to the finished work of Christ.
Because of Jesus, we never approach God on the basis of our own goodness. We come because His mercy has opened the way.
The writer of Hebrews gives us this wonderful invitation:
Hebrews 4:16 (KJV)
“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
Notice that we are invited to come boldly, not arrogantly, but confidently. Our confidence rests entirely in Christ. The same Savior who died for us now intercedes for us. Therefore, whenever we need wisdom, forgiveness, strength, comfort, or peace, we can come directly to our heavenly Father.
Mercy is not merely something God showed us once at salvation. His mercy sustains us every day. It restores us when we fall, comforts us when we grieve, strengthens us when we are weak, and reminds us that His love never changes.
David beautifully described the lifelong blessing of living under God’s care.
Psalm 23:6 (KJV)
“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
What a wonderful promise! God’s mercy walks beside us today and will safely bring us home one day to dwell forever in His presence.
Never forget that your salvation is secure because of Christ’s sacrifice. Your hope is alive because Jesus rose from the dead. Your future is bright because God’s mercy never fails.
As the song reminds us so powerfully:
“It’s not because I’m worthy… it’s all because of mercy.”
May those words become the testimony of every believer’s life. May we rejoice in God’s mercy, depend upon His mercy, and extend His mercy to everyone we meet.

Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your never-ending mercy. Thank You for loving us when we were undeserving and for providing salvation through the death and resurrection of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Help us never to take Your mercy for granted. Teach us to forgive as You have forgiven us, to love as You have loved us, and to extend mercy to those around us. May our lives reflect Your compassion every day until we stand in Your presence forever.
In Jesus’ precious name,
Amen.
