Introduction
Grace Is Not Permission
Grace is not permission to sin—it is power to change. A devotional on Judas and heart transformation. Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me.” — Matthew 26:21Judas walked with Jesus, listened to His teachings, witnessed miracles, and yet his heart remained unchanged. It’s a sobering reminder that proximity to truth is not the same as transformation by truth. We, too, can fall into this trap—attending church, carrying Scripture, even leading others—while quietly allowing sin to live unchecked within us.

Reflection
Judas is one of the most tragic figures in Scripture. He had every opportunity to believe, to repent, and to surrender. Yet instead of yielding his heart, he harbored sin in secret.
Jesus, knowing full well what Judas would do, still sat with him. Still taught him. Still loved him. And most striking of all—He offered him the bread at the table.
That is grace.
Grace is Jesus extending love when it is not deserved. Grace is the invitation to come close—even when the heart is far away.
But here is where we must be careful:
Grace is not permission.
Grace does not excuse sin. It exposes it. Grace does not enable compromise. It calls us higher.
The danger for us today is not ignorance—it is familiarity. Like Judas, we can become comfortable around holy things while quietly entertaining unholy habits.
Scripture warns us:
“As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” — Proverbs 23:7
What we tolerate privately will eventually reveal itself publicly. Sin that is fed in secret does not stay hidden forever.
Jesus sees beyond appearances. He sees the heart—the motives, the struggles, the compromises we justify.
And still… He offers grace.
Not so we can continue in sin—but so we can be transformed from it.
Life Application
- Ask God to reveal any hidden sin or compromise in your life.
- Confess quickly and honestly—grace meets you there.
- Remember that grace is your power to change, not permission to stay the same.
- Guard your private life—it shapes your public witness.

Closing Prayer
Lord Jesus, You see my heart completely. Nothing is hidden from You. Thank You for Your grace that meets me even in my weakness. Help me not to misuse that grace, but to be changed by it. Cleanse my heart, renew my mind, and lead me in righteousness. Give me the courage to confront anything in my life that does not honor You. In Your name, Amen.
