Introduction

Good God Almighty

Explore the significance of calling God Good God Almighty and discover His unwavering authority and power across time.  “To the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.” (Jude 1:25)  “Our God is in the heavens; He does all that He pleases.” (Psalm 115:3)
“When Abram was ninety-nine years old the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, ‘I am God Almighty; walk before me and be blameless.’” (Genesis 17:1)

There is something powerful about calling God by His rightful name—Almighty. In a world that often feels uncertain, unstable, and out of control, we are reminded that God is never shaken. He reigns above all, before all time, and forevermore.

Reflection

In Hebrew, the name El Shaddai means “God Almighty”—the all-powerful, all-sufficient One. When God revealed Himself to Abraham by this name, He was reminding him that nothing is impossible for Him. At ninety-nine years old, Abraham was far beyond human ability to fulfill God’s promise of becoming a father of many nations. Yet God was not limited by human weakness. He is Almighty.

The phrase “Good God Almighty” has often been reduced to a casual expression in our culture, but songs like Crowder’s reclaim it for what it truly is—a declaration of awe, reverence, and praise. It reminds us that God is not only powerful but also good. His strength is not distant or cold; it is personal, loving, and faithful.

No Worries

We often carry worries as if everything depends on us. We stress over outcomes, replay mistakes, and fear what we cannot control. Yet Scripture reminds us plainly: “He does all that He pleases” (Psalm 115:3). God is not reacting to life—He is ruling over it.

Daniel 4:35 reinforces this truth: no one can stay His hand or question His authority. That may sound intimidating at first, but for the believer, it is deeply comforting. The same God who holds all authority is the One who saves, loves, and redeems through Jesus Christ.

C.S. Lewis once wrote, “God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing.” That truth anchors us. Real peace comes not from control, but from surrender to the Almighty.

When we truly grasp who God is, our perspective changes. Worry begins to shrink. Fear loses its grip. Worship rises naturally. We stop trying to manage everything and start trusting the One who already holds everything together.

So when you say “Good God Almighty,” let it not be empty words. Let it be a declaration from your heart: God, You are powerful. God, You are good. God, You are in control.

Life Application

Today, take a moment to reflect on where you may be holding on too tightly to control.

Try this simple practice: each time worry rises today, pause and say, “Good God Almighty, I trust You.” Let that phrase become a prayer that redirects your heart back to Him.

Heavenly Father, You are El Shaddai, the Almighty God. You reign over all things with power and goodness. Forgive me for the times I try to carry what only You can handle. Teach me to trust You more, to surrender my fears, and to rest in Your perfect control. Let my life be a reflection of praise to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
