Leaning On the Everlasting Arms [Live] – Gaither Leaning On the Everlasting Arms by Gaither

Introduction

For His Namesake we walk the path of righteousness. Psalm 23:3 tells us that He leads us with purpose—for His glory. This devotion explores the joy and responsibility of living as Christians for His namesake.

He Leads Us With Purpose

For His Namesake we walk in righteousness. He leads us for His glory. Live a life that honors Christ and reflects His name daily.  “He leads me in paths of righteousness for His namesake.” (Psalm 23:3) During my time in prison ministry, I saw firsthand how the name of God carries power. Before speaking, we’d call out, “God is good!” The inmates echoed, “All the time!” That powerful exchange wasn’t scripted—it was rooted in truth. Indeed, as Psalm 100:5 reminds us, “For the Lord is good; His steadfast love endures forever, and His faithfulness to all generations.”

David, described as “a man after God’s heart,” penned Psalm 23 with great assurance. He understood that our lives, when guided by God, become living testimonies—not for our own reputations, but for His namesake. Similarly, I strive to live a life that honors my earthly father, who gifted me a good name. But even more importantly, I carry the identity of a child of God. I wear a “crown of righteousness,” not because of my deeds, but because I believe in Jesus. That belief, God says, is counted as righteousness.

Living for His Glory

Everything we do as Christians—how we serve, how we love, how we forgive—should point others to Christ. Our obedience, our struggles, even our suffering are all lived out for His namesake. When we understand this, even the ordinary moments of life become sacred. So today, reflect on the honor it is to be called a Christian. Let your choices and your words serve as a banner declaring God’s faithfulness. It’s not just about our journey—it’s about His glory. And when we live for His namesake, our lives echo His goodness through every generation.
