Born of a Virgin – The Promise of Immanuel

700 years before Christ’s birth Isiah proclaimed the Virgin’s birth
Born of a Virgin

Introduction

Explore the profound meaning of being born of a virgin and the significance of the Incarnation in Christian theology.  Seven centuries before the holy night in Bethlehem, the prophet Isaiah proclaimed:
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14).  Spoken around 700 B.C., this divine oracle heralded the mystery of the Incarnation—God dwelling among His people.

Supportive Quotation

“The Son of God became a man to enable men to become sons of God.” — C.S. Lewis

Reflection

In the fullness of time, the promise was fulfilled. The Virgin Mary, overshadowed by the Holy Spirit,
brought forth the Christ Child (Luke 1:35). In that sacred moment, the eternal Word became flesh
and dwelt among us (John 1:14). Christmas is not merely the remembrance of a birth, but the celebration
of God’s condescension—His gracious descent into human history to redeem and restore.

Advent calls us to watch and wait, just as Israel once longed for the Messiah. It is a season of holy
expectation, preparing our hearts to receive anew the gift of Immanuel. The virgin birth stands as a sign
that with God nothing is impossible (Luke 1:37), and that His promises are sure.

Let us bow in wonder before the Child of Bethlehem, rejoicing that the God of prophecy is the God of presence—
Immanuel, “God with us,” now and forevermore.

Life Application

  • Reflect daily on what “God with us” truly means in your personal walk.
  • Offer a prayer of gratitude for God’s faithfulness to His promises.
  • Practice waiting with hope—trusting God’s timing in every circumstance.
  • Share the message of Immanuel with someone who needs encouragement.

Closing Prayer

O Lord our God, who in the fullness of time sent forth Your Son, born of the Virgin, to be our Immanuel:
grant that as we keep this holy season of Advent and celebrate the mystery of His Nativity, our hearts
may be filled with reverence, joy, and steadfast faith. May we behold the Child of Bethlehem as the Light
of the world and the hope of all nations. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and
the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Advent Thread:

We are approaching advent this year with each daily devotion focused on some of the prophesies that were fulfilled by the life of Jesus.  The odds of a man fulfilling just 8 prophesies:  1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000. That is 1 in 100 quadrillion. A quadrillion is 1000 trillion.  Jesus fulfilled over 300.  He is not just a man.  He is GOD.  (Source:  Mathematician Peter Stoner)
