America’s Blindness to the Creator
America’s blindness to God’s favor is growing. Psalm 23 prophetically reflects the blessings we’ve received. America’s blindness must end. Israel is unquestionably God’s chosen people. Yet, God in His grace and generosity has made America a present-day “Garden of Eden”—a land flowing with blessings, abundance, and opportunity. We must not be blind to this divine favor.Three thousand years ago, the Psalmist David penned words that now appear to prophetically describe the United States of America in Psalm 23:
“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.”
These poetic words echo the reality of what America has experienced:
- Fertile soil and abundant harvests
- Beautiful rivers and majestic landscapes
- A temperate climate that nourishes life
- Mountains and lakes for both recreation and reflection
- The ability to feed not just itself, but the world
- Divine preservation through every war and national crisis
- Anointed and overflowing blessings—economically, socially, and spiritually
God’s goodness and mercy have indeed followed this nation from its founding. Yet now, fewer than 50% of Americans say they believe in God. That is not just a statistic; it is a sign of spiritual blindness. As we celebrate our 250th year under the rule of the Good Shepherd, it is time to either bow down or look up—but in all things, praise God! Let us not take for granted what previous generations prayed, bled, and died to protect. Let our hearts be renewed in reverence and gratitude for the One who has sustained us. “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” — Proverbs 23:7
