Stick to What You Know — Anchored in Christ’s Words of Eternal Life

Introduction

When many voices compete for attention, remain anchored in Christ who alone has the words of eternal life.  Life constantly presents us with new voices, new ideas, and new “experts.” Social media influencers, artificial intelligence tools, charismatic personalities, and persuasive teachers all compete for attention. Many promise deeper insight, secret knowledge, or a better spiritual path. Yet in the midst of all these voices, believers must remember a simple but powerful truth: when you have truly encountered Jesus Christ, you already know where eternal life is found.

In John 6, many who had followed Jesus suddenly turned away when His teaching became difficult. The crowd that once celebrated Him began to disappear. Jesus then turned to His closest followers and asked a piercing question: “Do you want to go away as well?” Peter’s answer remains one of the clearest statements of faith in all of Scripture: “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” (John 6:67–68)

Peter understood something vital. When you have met the Savior and experienced His truth, there is nowhere else worth going.

Reflection

The world is not short on spiritual opinions. In fact, there may be more voices speaking about faith today than at any point in history. Technology has made it easy for anyone to share beliefs, interpretations, and philosophies with a global audience.

But Scripture warns us about this very situation. The apostle Paul wrote to the Ephesians that believers must grow in maturity “so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine” (Ephesians 4:14).

Spiritual instability often comes when we chase every new teaching instead of anchoring ourselves in the truth we already know. Faith matures when it is rooted in Christ rather than in the shifting opinions of people.

Peter’s life illustrates this beautifully. Though he had moments of weakness and failure, he knew one thing with absolute certainty: Jesus was the Holy One of God. When others walked away, Peter stayed. Not because he understood everything, but because he knew the One who held eternal life.

Later, in the book of Acts, Peter demonstrated the same unwavering conviction. After he and John healed a crippled man, the authorities arrested them and commanded them to stop speaking about Jesus. Their response was simple and bold: “We cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard!” (Acts 4:20).

Peter wasn’t speaking from theory. He spoke from experience. He had walked with Jesus, listened to His teaching, watched His miracles, and encountered the risen Lord.

That personal knowledge gave Peter unshakable confidence.

Many believers today struggle with doubt because they spend more time listening to competing voices than remembering what God has already shown them. When you recall how Christ has forgiven you, guided you, answered prayers, and transformed your heart, the truth becomes clear again.

As Proverbs 23:7 reminds us, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” What fills our thoughts shapes our faith. When our minds are centered on Christ and His Word, our spiritual footing becomes firm.

Peter’s message to us across the centuries is simple: stick to what you know. If Jesus has proven Himself faithful, there is no better voice to follow.

Life Application

Today, take a moment to remember your own encounters with God. Think about how He first drew you to Christ, how He has sustained your faith, and how His Word has guided you through life’s challenges.

When confusing voices arise, return to the foundation you already know. Stay grounded in Scripture, prayer, and the person of Jesus Christ. Mature faith does not chase every new idea—it remains anchored in the One who never changes.

Just as Peter declared long ago, we can confidently say: “Lord, to whom shall we go?”

Closing Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for being the source of eternal life. When the world presents confusing voices and competing ideas, help me remain anchored in Your truth. Strengthen my faith so that I will not be tossed about by every new teaching, but instead remain firm in what I know about You. Give me Peter’s courage to speak about what I have seen and heard, and keep my heart centered on Your Word. Amen.
