Introduction
Explore the Malachi prophecy fulfilled and its significance in preparing the way for the Messiah before Christ’s birth. “Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to His temple; and the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight—behold, He is coming, says the LORD of hosts.” (Malachi 3:1) More than four hundred years before Christ’s birth, God spoke through Malachi, promising that a messenger would prepare the way for the Messiah. This divine herald would appear before the Lord Himself came suddenly to His temple. The prophecy was clear: Someone would come before the Christ—and Someone far greater would follow.

Reflection
Malachi’s prophecy pointed to John the Baptist, the divinely appointed messenger who would prepare the hearts of Israel for Jesus. Centuries later, John stood on the banks of the Jordan River, lifted his eyes, and declared with power that still echoes today: “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29).
Jesus did not come merely as a teacher or reformer—He came as the Lamb. He entered the temple not to offer sacrifices but to become the final sacrifice, establishing the New Covenant in His own blood. At the Last Supper, He declared, “This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many” (Mark 14:24). No more goats. No more, lambs. or altars of stone. The Lamb of God offered Himself once for all.
This is why Jesus’ words in John 6 stun the soul even today: “Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. Whoever feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day” (John 6:53–54). He was telling us that true life—eternal life—comes only through union with Him. To feed on Christ is to believe in Christ. To drink His blood is to trust fully in His saving work.
Good morning, dear friend in Christ. As we prepare our hearts today, may we come to the table of grace with wonder, humility, and faith. Let us feast on the Bread of Life and drink from the cup of salvation, remembering that the Lamb who came is the Lamb who lives—and the Lamb who will return.
Life Application
- Ask the Lord to prepare your heart today, just as John prepared the way for Christ.
- Take a quiet moment to thank Jesus for being the once-and-for-all sacrifice for your sins.
- Reflect on the New Covenant—what it means that you are forgiven, redeemed, and made new.
- As you encounter others today, point them to Jesus with your words and your conduct.
Prophesies
This Advent, we are focusing daily on prophecies fulfilled by Jesus. The mathematical odds of one man fulfilling just eight prophecies is 1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000—one in 100 quadrillion. Jesus fulfilled more than 300. He is not merely a man—He is God. (Source: Mathematician Peter Stoner)
Closing Prayer
Lord Jesus, prepare my heart the way John prepared the way for You.
Cleanse me, renew me, and remind me today of the power of Your sacrifice.
Help me walk in the freedom, forgiveness, and hope of the New Covenant.
I behold You, Lamb of God—my Savior, my King, my life. Amen.
