Christian bowing toward the lcross seeking Christlikeness
More Like Jesus

Introduction

Learn how to grow in Christlikeness through practical steps of sanctification.  As followers of Christ, our lifelong calling is to grow steadily into the likeness of Jesus. This sacred journey of transformation is known as sanctification—a process God initiates, sustains, and brings to completion. Week by week, month by month, and year by year, the Holy Spirit works within us to shape our thoughts, words, and actions to reflect the heart of Christ. The real question for each of us is simple but searching: Am I becoming more like Jesus?

Quotation

A.W. Tozer once wrote, “The true Christian yearns to be like Jesus; he is not satisfied until he wakes in His likeness.” This longing is not merely emotional—it is spiritual evidence that God is actively working in us.

Reflection

Becoming more like Jesus does not happen accidentally. Scripture gives us clear, practical steps that shape the sanctified life. These habits do not save us—salvation is fully by grace (Ephesians 2:8–9)—but they position our hearts for transformation.

1. Read the Bible (2 Timothy 2:15).
To know Jesus, we must study His Word. Scripture renews our minds, strengthens conviction, and reveals God’s heart. A Christian who neglects the Word will struggle to grow.

2. Continually pray (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
Prayer is our constant connection to our heavenly Father. It aligns our will with His and allows His peace, wisdom, and strength to flow into our daily lives.

3. Be baptized (Acts 2:41).
Baptism is an outward expression of an inward reality—our commitment to follow Christ. It marks the beginning of our discipleship journey.

4. Build friendships with other Christians.
We grow best in community. As the saying goes: “Missing church is a misdemeanor. The more you miss, de meaner you get.” Fellowship encourages, corrects, and strengthens us.

5. Help others (1 John 3:17–18).
Jesus’ compassion defined His ministry. Serving others moves our hearts closer to His and reflects His love to a watching world.

6. Tell others about Jesus (1 Peter 3:15–16).
Sharing the hope we have in Christ deepens our faith and fulfills our mission. We don’t preach ourselves—we point people to the Savior.

Always remember: our growth is God’s work in us. “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6). Your part is obedience, faithfulness, and surrender. God’s part is transformation.

Canaan Baca’s song “More Like Jesus” beautifully captures this desire. It should be the heartbeat of every believer: Lord, make us more like Jesus.

Life Application

Choose one area this week to take a clear step toward becoming more like Christ.
• If your Bible reading has been inconsistent—start with a daily chapter.
• If prayer has grown cold—set aside intentional time each morning.
• If fellowship has slipped—be present at church this Sunday.
• If service feels distant—look for someone you can bless.
• If evangelism feels intimidating—tell one person what Jesus means to you.

Growth does not require perfection—it requires direction. Keep moving toward Jesus, and He will shape you into His likeness.

Closing Prayer

Lord Jesus, make us more like You. Shape our hearts, guide our thoughts, and strengthen our steps so that our lives reflect Your love, humility, and grace. Complete the good work You have begun in us. Amen.
