Grace — God’s Grace That Frees

Saving Grace

Introduction

“GRACE.”  Written about it before but have had several questions.  So important .  Let’s dig deeper.     God’s grace proves that salvation is a gift, not earned by merit, but bestowed through His infinite love.  Grace is defined as Divine Favor viewed as the manifestation of God’s favor towards humanity, emphasizing the belief that salvation is granted not through human merit but through His divine benevolence.  God’s grace is the unmerited favor that turns our failure into forgiveness and our guilt into glory.   Let’s explore how the Good News—Christ died for sinners—changes everything we thought we had to do to earn God’s approval.   Grace shows that salvation is not a product of human merit but the gift of God’s divine benevolence.

John 3:16–17

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.”

It’s hard to imagine any better news. The New Testament proclaims two unshakable truths: we are more lost than we can possibly imagine, and we are more loved than we can possibly dream.

Romans 3:23

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Only when we take this truth seriously—dreadfully, totally seriously—are we able to grasp the world-altering good news that follows.

Romans 5:8

“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

So what separates us from God? In light of what Jesus accomplished on the cross, it doesn’t have to be our sin. Rather, often it is our refusal to accept that grace truly covers us.

Ephesians 2:4–8

“But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages He might show the incomparable riches of His grace, expressed in His kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.”

This passage stresses that grace is God’s initiative and gift—salvation is received, not manufactured.

Morning Prayer

Lord Jesus, open our hearts to receive your undeserved love today. Help us to believe your grace is enough and to live from that freedom. Amen.

Reflection

Grace means God treats us not as our sins deserve but as His mercy compels. Our performance plans collapse when we stand before the cross and see a Savior who died for sinners. Augustine once observed how God works to redeem—bringing good out of what was meant for harm. That is grace in motion.

Life Application — Practical Checklist

  • ☐ Write one short sentence admitting where you try to earn God’s approval; pray to receive His grace there.
  • ☐ Read Romans 3:23, Romans 5:8, and Ephesians 2:4–8 aloud today and thank God for the gift of salvation.
  • ☐ Offer a small act of forgiveness to someone this week as a tangible response to received grace.
  • ☐ Share this devotion or one of the song links with a friend who needs hope.

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You for free and saving grace. Free us from striving and rest us in Your finished work. Help us to live in gratitude and to extend this same grace to others. Amen.

Tennessee Ernie Ford — “The Old Rugged Cross”

Through prayer, we talk to God. Through Scripture, God talks to us. Read books for knowledge; read the Bible for wisdom. Have a great week and keep your spirits high.Hugs,
Bill
