Needed: Honest Workers

Honest workers are needed more than ever, especially in a world where selfish ambition often trumps service. The following verse calls us to labor with purpose and integrity, so that we can give generously and live honorably.”Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.” —Ephesians 4:28

Chuck Colson, known as President Nixon’s “hatchet man” during the Watergate era, represents a powerful testimony of redemption and transformation. Before serving time in prison for his role in the scandal, Chuck experienced a radical change—he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. After his release, Chuck didn’t just talk about change; he lived it. He founded Prison Fellowship in 1976, a ministry that brings the gospel of Jesus Christ to incarcerated men and women, as well as their families. Today, that ministry spans more than 120 countries, continuing to offer hope and restoration to those most in need. Instead of living in shame, Chuck used his past as a springboard for service. He chose honest labor and gave back in ways that still ripple through lives today. In fact, Chuck once said, “My worst day in prison was better than my best day in the White House.”

That’s the power of redemption. That’s the joy of becoming an honest worker for God. So today, as you prepare for work or begin your tasks, ask yourself: Am I working just for a paycheck, or am I working so I can bless others? Honest work glorifies God, especially when it overflows into generosity. Therefore, commit to doing your work with excellence and a cheerful heart. Because when your labor becomes love in action, you’re doing far more than a job—you’re building God’s Kingdom.
