That’s Who I Praise – A Devotion on Sacrificial Worship

Praising God in Every Season

Introduction

Join us in the ‘That’s Who I Praise devotion’ to reflect on God’s holiness and steadfast love through worship and prayer.  “Let them praise Your great and awesome name! Holy is He!” (Psalm 99:3)

“Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.” (James 5:13)

“Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His steadfast love endures forever!” (Psalm 118:29)

Brandon Lake’s powerful anthem “That’s Who I Praise” reminds us that praise is not rooted in our circumstances but in God’s unchanging character. We praise Him not only for what He does—but for who He is. He is holy. He is faithful. He is undefeated. He is worthy.

“The Christian should be an Alleluia from head to foot.” — Charles Spurgeon

Main Reflection

It is easy to praise God when the prayer is answered, the bills are paid, and the doctor’s report is good. But Scripture calls us to something deeper—a sacrifice of praise.

“Through Him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge His name.” (Hebrews 13:15)

A sacrifice costs something. Praise offered in pain is powerful. Praise offered in uncertainty is profound. Praise offered when we feel weak becomes a declaration that God is still strong.

Brandon Lake’s song references biblical heroes—imperfect men and women who still chose faith. Moses doubted. David failed. Peter denied Christ. Yet God remained faithful. Their praise was not rooted in their perfection but in God’s character.

That truth changes everything.

We do not praise God because we are flawless. We praise Him because He is holy. We do not sing because we are strong. We sing because He is undefeated. We do not worship because life is easy. We worship because His steadfast love endures forever.

Psalm 109:30 declares, “With my mouth I will give thanks to the Lord; I will praise Him in the midst of the throng.” Notice the resolve: I will. Praise is a decision before it is a feeling.

Sometimes our praise feels small. Sometimes our voice shakes. Sometimes our faith feels fragile. But God does not measure praise by volume. He receives it by sincerity.

The enemy wants us focused on insecurity, comparison, regret, and fear. Worship shifts our gaze. When we lift our eyes to heaven, our problems shrink in the light of His greatness.

God is still a miracle worker. He is still a chain breaker. He is still King of kings. That’s who we praise.

Life Application

Today, practice intentional praise:

Let praise become your reflex. Let gratitude become your language. Let worship become your posture.

If this message strengthens your walk, consider subscribing so these daily devotions can continue to encourage your heart. Your journey of praise matters.

When suffering comes—pray. When joy rises—sing. When fear whispers—declare truth. Praise is not denial of hardship; it is defiance against despair.

Because at the end of every season, every valley, and every victory, one truth remains:

Holy is He.

Closing Prayer

Father, You are holy, faithful, and worthy of all praise. Teach my heart to worship You in every season. When I am weak, be my strength. When I am uncertain, be my confidence. Let my lips continually offer praise—not because life is perfect, but because You are. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
