I’ll Have A New Body
Discover the promise of a new resurrection body through Jesus Christ, and let today’s devotion renew your hope. Watching my grandchildren play in the backyard recently, I noticed a caterpillar making its slow way across a leaf. Within days, in God’s design, that same small creature would enter a season of hidden change and emerge as a butterfly—wings ready to rise, dance on the wind, and display a beauty its old body never could. That simple picture from creation stirred something deep in my heart. Because of Jesus Christ, our present weak and mortal bodies are not the end of our story. One day, He will transform them into glorious new resurrection bodies like His own.

Opening Worship Song
Bill and Gloria Gaither, joined by the Statler Brothers, sing with joyful confidence about the resurrection hope every believer shares. Let their voices prepare your heart before we turn to God’s Word together.
Scripture Focus
The Christian hope is not merely that believers leave the body behind, but that Christ will raise and transform us. The following passages, presented here from the New International Version, directly support this promise of a new body.
Philippians 3:20–21 (NIV)
But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
This is perhaps the clearest promise in all of Scripture. Jesus will transform the believer’s present frail body to resemble His own resurrected, glorious body.
1 Corinthians 15:42–44 (NIV)
“The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.”
Paul contrasts the limits of our present bodies—perishable, weak, and dishonored—with the resurrection body, which is imperishable, glorious, powerful, and fitted for life by God’s Spirit.
Transformation
1 Corinthians 15:51–53 (NIV)
“We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed—in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.… For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality.”
This passage gives us the language of transformation. Mortality will be replaced by immortality, and decay will give way to imperishability.
2 Corinthians 5:1–5 (NIV)
“If the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.… [We] long to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling … so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.”
Paul pictures the body as a temporary tent, and he anticipates being clothed with God’s eternal provision, where mortal life is fully overcome by resurrection life.
Because Jesus rose bodily from the grave, we can face weakness, suffering, and death with hope. One day He will redeem, raise, and transform our bodies to share in His glory.
Life Application
A Body Fit for Glory
A “new body” does not mean God abandons His physical creation. Scripture presents a real, bodily resurrection. God transforms what is mortal, weak, and perishing into a body that is imperishable, glorious, and like Christ’s own risen body. Watching that caterpillar reminded me that transformation is part of God’s pattern for His creation. He does not throw away what He has made; instead, He remakes it into something far more beautiful. Your aching joints, your tired eyes, your slowing steps—none of these are the final word on your body. They are simply the “sowing” that Paul described, the humble beginning of something imperishable.
Living With Resurrection Hope Today
This truth changes how we face today, not just eternity. When illness visits your family, you can grieve honestly while still trusting that decay does not have the last word. When age slows your body down, you can look forward instead of only looking back. Because Christ conquered the grave, weakness now becomes a doorway to future glory rather than a dead end. Therefore, you can serve, love, and work today without fear, knowing your labor is never wasted and your body’s limits are only temporary. Meanwhile, this hope also shapes how we care for others. A friend battling cancer, a parent losing mobility, a spouse facing memory loss—all of them can hear this same promise from you: this is not the end of the story.
The Assurance We Have in Christ
How can we be so confident? Because Jesus Himself rose bodily from the grave, and His resurrection guarantees ours. He did not remain a spirit floating somewhere in heaven; He walked, spoke, ate, and was touched by His disciples—yet His body was gloriously changed. Paul calls Him the “firstfruits” of everyone who belongs to Him, meaning what happened to Jesus will happen to us. As a result, we do not have to fear death, dread aging, or despair over disease. Instead, we can echo the caterpillar’s quiet confidence, trusting that hidden change is leading somewhere beautiful. One day, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, we will see Him and be like Him. Until then, we live as people who already know how the story ends.
Charles Spurgeon captured this same confidence when he wrote, “Jesus has redeemed not only our souls, but our bodies” (Morning by Morning). That redemption is already secured; we are simply waiting for the day it is fully revealed.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the promise that this body is not all there is. Thank You for Jesus, who rose from the grave and secured a glorious future for everyone who trusts in Him. When weakness or age discourages me, remind me that You are making all things new. Give me patience in the waiting, strength for today, and hope for the day my body will finally be like Christ’s own glorious body. I trust You with my past, my present, and my future. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Closing Worship Song
Phil Wickham’s “Hymn of Heaven” turns our eyes toward the day every promise in Scripture is finally fulfilled. Let it carry your heart into the hope we’ve shared today.
