Introduction

Know your role in Christ by encouraging perseverance and by building unity so God is glorified in one voice. Know your role in Christ by encouraging others and persevering in faith. We glorify God best when we lift one another up in unity.

Life Application

The Apostle Paul reminds us to “be of the same mind with one another, according to Christ Jesus, so that with one purpose and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 15:5–6). His words emphasize that believers cannot live in isolation. We know our role by standing together in perseverance and encouragement, pointing each other back to Jesus. This unity produces one voice of worship that glorifies Him. Jesus Himself told us that “in the world you will have problems. But take heart; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Trouble is expected. Trials will come. Yet perseverance becomes possible when we lean on one another for support and rely on Christ for strength. In this way, we not only endure but also thrive in faith. Believers must not shrink back or attempt to walk alone. Instead, we recognize that part of our calling is to encourage each other daily. Paul urged the Thessalonians, “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing” (1 Thessalonians 5:11). This verse makes clear that our words and actions carry weight.

Encourage one another

They either build or break, uplift or discourage. When we choose to inspire perseverance, we fulfill a vital role in the body of Christ. We contribute to unity of mind, voice, and purpose. This collective encouragement reflects Christ to the world, who sees not division but harmony among believers. To know your role is to remember that no act of encouragement is too small. A kind word, a prayer, or even a listening ear becomes a lifeline for someone else’s journey. Just as the hymn asks if we are soldiers of the cross, we should consider ourselves teammates in the battle of faith, leaning on one another, while keeping Christ as our foundation. As we step into each day, we must be intentional: look for opportunities to strengthen, comfort, and build up others. When we do this, God is glorified, perseverance is multiplied, and our unity in Christ shines brightly.
