Introduction

What love, my God, that He would leave heaven to rescue us and never stop loving those He came to save. Daily life often measures love by feelings, performance, or what someone can give in return. God’s love is completely different. His love is eternal, sacrificial, faithful, and unchanging. Before we ever sought Him, He sought us. Before we ever loved Him, He loved us. Even when we fail, His love remains steadfast because it is rooted in His character rather than our performance.
The Apostle John wrote:
“So, we have come to know and believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.”

John doesn’t simply tell us to believe that God loves people in general. He says we can know and believe the love God has for us personally. That truth changes everything. We no longer live trying to earn God’s approval. Instead, we live from the security of already being loved through Jesus Christ.

The words shared by Dave beautifully summarize the message behind the song What Love, My God. They remind us that Jesus willingly left the glory of heaven to enter a broken world He Himself created. The King of kings accepted a humble birth, experienced rejection, endured suffering, and ultimately gave His life on the cross. The Creator stepped into His creation so that sinful people could become children of God.
Every detail of Christ’s earthly life demonstrates the immeasurable love of God. He walked where we walk, felt what we feel, and carried burdens we could never bear ourselves. His sacrifice was not an afterthought but the fulfillment of God’s eternal plan to redeem His people. That is love beyond our ability to fully comprehend.
Life Application
The words “What Love, My God” invite us to stop and reflect on a love that is beyond anything we can fully comprehend. We use the word love so often that it can lose its impact. Yet God’s love is unlike any love we experience on earth. It is constant, sacrificial, unwavering, and completely undeserved. It is not based on our worthiness but on His perfect character.
Jesus did not leave the glory of heaven because humanity had earned another opportunity. He came because the Father loved us so deeply that He willingly gave His only Son to redeem a lost world. Christ laid aside heaven’s splendor, entered our brokenness, and experienced the joys and sorrows of human life. The One who created the stars was born beneath them. The Author of life walked among those He came to save.
The song beautifully captures this amazing truth. The King of kings accepted the humility of a manger. The Great Physician endured suffering. The sinless Savior willingly stretched out His hands on a cross so that our debt could be paid in full. Every step He took—from Bethlehem to Calvary—was a step motivated by divine love.
Many believers wrestle with the fear that they have failed God too many times. Regret, disappointment, and lingering guilt can make us wonder whether His love has limits. Scripture answers those doubts with reassuring certainty.
Through the prophet Jeremiah, God declares:
“I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.”
God’s love does not rise and fall with our successes or failures. His faithfulness rests on His unchanging nature. While our circumstances shift and our emotions fluctuate, His promises remain firm. The same God who called His people centuries ago still holds His children securely today.
Zephaniah offers another beautiful glimpse into the Father’s heart. The Lord is not only our mighty Savior but also the One who delights in His people. He quiets our anxious hearts with His love and rejoices over us with singing. What an incredible picture of God’s personal affection for those who belong to Him.
Paul echoes this assurance with one of the Bible’s greatest promises:
“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38–39)
No trial, no failure, no hardship, and no power in heaven or earth can sever the bond Christ established through His sacrifice. Because His love is secure, we can face each day with confidence rather than fear. We serve Him not to earn His acceptance but because we have already received His grace. We forgive because we have been forgiven. We love because He first loved us. And we can greet every new morning with hope, knowing His mercies are fresh, His faithfulness is certain, and His love will never let us go.
As Jeremiah proclaimed in the midst of great sorrow:
“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for loving us with an everlasting love that never fails. We are humbled that Jesus would leave the glory of heaven to walk among us, bear our sins, and give His life so that we could have eternal life. When we doubt Your love, remind us of the cross. If we are discouraged, quiet our hearts with Your presence. Help us to rest in the assurance that nothing can separate us from Your love in Christ Jesus. May Your love shape our thoughts, guide our words, and be reflected in the way we love others. Thank You for Your mercy that is new every morning and for Your faithfulness that never ends.
