Father’s Day Legacy

Father’s Day Legacy

Introduction

Father’s Day Legacy reminds us that a godly father’s influence continues long after he enters eternity.  Father’s Day is a special time to thank God for fathers and father-figures who reflect His love, guidance, and care.   George Edward Tolbert was my Dad.  HIs six grandchildren called him Brrrr Fox.  Because he held them all as toddlers and told them fascinating farm stories about the adventures of Brrrr Squirrel, Brrrr Rabbit,  Brrrr Raccoon,  Brrrr possum, Brrrr  Crow,  Brrrr Red Bird.   etc.  etc.  Each child would be named for a part in every story but Dad always played the part of Brrr Fox.    The name stuck.  We all still refer to him as Brrrr Fox.

Last Father’s Day I wrote about my Dad’s “Experience” where he changed every aspect of his life in the blink of an eye.  In an instant he went from being a consummate businessman to “An Almighty Man of God and Everyday Witness for Jesus Christ as Our Lord and Savior.  Having an out of body death Experience can do that to a soul.  You can read about that here:

Quotations

“Any man can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a dad.” — Anne Geddes

“A father is someone you look up to no matter how tall you grow.” — Unknown

“The quality of a father can be seen in the goals, dreams, and aspirations he sets not only for himself, but for his family.” — Reed Markham

“It is a wise father that knows his own child.” — William Shakespeare

“A father’s smile has been known to light up a child’s entire day.” — Susan Gale

The Bible teaches fathers to raise their children in the Lord, not in anger but with compassion and instruction. A good father leaves a lasting legacy of faith, integrity, and love. At the same time, God calls us to honor our fathers with gratitude and respect.

Scripture reminds us that fatherhood is both a blessing and a responsibility, calling men to lead their families with patience, wisdom, and faith.

The only thing we can take to heaven with us is your family and a few friends by sharing and living the Gospel of Jesus Christ as the Son of God, who died for us so that through our belief in him we are forgiven our sins and promised eternal life.

Life Application

My Dad entered eternal life more than thirty-four years ago. Yet his influence remains alive in our family today. That truth reveals an important lesson about Father’s Day Legacy. A godly father’s greatest inheritance is not money, property, or accomplishments. Instead, it is the faith, values, and love he plants into future generations.

Father’s Day Legacy reminds us that God designed fathers to shape hearts and guide families. Therefore, Scripture consistently calls fathers to lead with wisdom, compassion, humility, and faithfulness. Moreover, children are called to honor their fathers and mothers as an act of obedience to God.

During my business career I spent more than a year in Japan, – two to three weeks at a time.  . While there I learned a beautiful saying that translates, “Children are God’s way of allowing every man to be rich.” That wisdom captures a profound truth. A child changes a father’s heart forever. Consequently, fathers begin to understand love in deeper ways than they ever imagined.

As parents, grandparents, and spiritual mentors, we discover a glimpse of God’s heart through loving our children. However, God’s love exceeds even the strongest earthly love. He loved us so deeply that He gave His only Son so that everyone who believes in Jesus Christ may receive eternal life.

Scripture for Fathers

Ephesians 6:4
“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”

Proverbs 22:6
“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Psalm 103:13
“As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.”

Joshua 24:15
“But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Honoring Fathers

Exodus 20:12
“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.”

Proverbs 23:22
“Listen to your father who gave you life…”

Exodus 20:12
“Honor thy father and mother.”

Hebrews 12:9
“We had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them…”

Leviticus 19:3
“Every one of you shall revere his mother and his father…”
