Unto Us a Child Is Born – Christmas Devotion

Introduction

Join us in reflecting on the Unto Us a Child Is Born devotion, a celebration of God’s promise fulfilled in the Savior.  Christmas proclaims a joy that echoes across centuries and into every human heart. The angel’s announcement to the shepherds was not merely a comforting message for one quiet night in Bethlehem—it was the fulfillment of a promise God had spoken long before. The Child born in the manger is the long-awaited Savior, the promised King, and the everlasting source of hope for all people.

Quotation

“The Son of God became a man to enable men to become sons of God.” — C.S. Lewis

Scripture Reading

Luke 2:10–11 (NIV)
“But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.’”

Isaiah 9:6 (NIV) –  Written 700+ years before Christ’s birth!
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Devotional Reflection

The angel’s words in Luke 2 stand among the most joyful ever spoken: “good news of great joy for all the people.” God did not reserve this message for kings or scholars. He entrusted it first to shepherds—ordinary men living ordinary lives. Through this announcement, God revealed that His salvation had arrived, not through power or spectacle, but through humility and grace.

This announcement reaches back more than seven centuries to the prophecy of Isaiah. Around 734–732 BC, during a season of political turmoil and fear in Judah, God spoke through the prophet Isaiah. He promised a coming Child who would be more than a ruler—He would be Mighty God and Prince of Peace. Nearly 700 years before Jesus’ birth, God had already revealed how salvation would come.

The fulfillment of this promise astonishes us. The Child Isaiah foretold entered the world in Bethlehem, lay in a manger, and received heaven’s announcement through angels. He came as fully human—a child born—and fully divine—a Son given. His kingdom does not advance by force but by righteousness, mercy, and peace that transform hearts.

For believers today, this truth calls us to rejoice and trust. The Savior has come. The King reigns. No darkness can overcome the light He brings. Christmas reminds us that God keeps His promises, even when fulfillment seems delayed or impossible. The same God who fulfilled His word in Bethlehem remains faithful in our lives today.

Life Application

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your Son. Help us to rejoice in the fulfilled promise of our Savior and live each day under His loving reign. Fill our hearts with Your peace and joy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Advent Thread:

We are approaching advent this year with each daily devotion focused on some of the prophesies that were fulfilled by the life of Jesus.  The odds of a man fulfilling just 8 prophesies:  1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000. That is 1 in 100 quadrillion. A quadrillion is 1000 trillion.  Jesus fulfilled over 300.  He is not just a man.  He is GOD.  (Source:  Mathematician Peter Stoner)
