Devotion
St. Augustine once wrote, “A Christian is: a mind through which Christ thinks, a heart through which Christ loves, a voice through which Christ speaks, and a hand through which Christ helps.” This profound statement echoes Paul’s teaching that love is the greatest evidence of Christ at work within us.
Paul described love in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7: “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
Augustine (354–430), one of the most influential voices in the history of the Church, reminded believers that true Christian living flows directly from the love of Christ filling our minds, hearts, and actions. He, like Martin Luther later on, leaned heavily on the Apostle Paul’s teaching on grace and salvation. Today, those same truths call us to reflect Jesus by living in love.
Life Application
The scripture says, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7). When Jesus is living in you, His love will naturally shape your thoughts, your words, and your deeds. Consider the people you meet today: Will they hear kindness in your words, feel patience in your actions, and see Christ in your character? Living in love is more than a command—it is evidence that Christ dwells within you.
