No Longer Slaves — Jonathan David and Melissa Helser

Introduction

Cry Abba Father reminds us that God’s love is not distant but deeply personal, drawing us into His family. Through the Spirit of adoption, we confidently call Him “Abba, Father”—a term filled with intimacy and trust. Therefore, this truth not only sets us free from fear but also confirms that we belong to Him as beloved children. Moreover, it assures us that our identity rests securely in His unchanging love.

We Are Adopted into God’s Family

Cry Abba Father and embrace the Spirit of adoption. Cry Abba Father knowing you are a child of God—free from fear and loved forever.

“For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, ‘ABBA, Father!’ The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.” — Romans 8:15–16

When Paul uses the phrase Abba Father, he highlights a deeply personal relationship—like saying “Daddy.” Before Jesus came, people mostly knew God as King and righteous Judge. However, through Christ, we now know Him as our loving Father. As a result, this relationship changes everything. We no longer stand at a distance; instead, we draw near with confidence and joy. Furthermore, we experience His embrace and hear His voice affirming our place in His family.

From Outsiders to Heirs

At one time, we stood outside God’s family as Gentiles. Yet, God reached out and adopted us through His grace. In doing so, He transformed our status from strangers to sons and daughters. Adoption reflects His deliberate choice—God personally chose you and me. Because of that, His words of affirmation now echo over our lives:

“This is My son, with whom I am well pleased.”
“I love you, like you, and am proud of you.”

In truth, the Spirit does not enslave us with fear; rather, He fills us with the joy of belonging. Consequently, we live as free and confident heirs of His kingdom. Paul emphasizes that we hold full membership in the family of God—permanently, joyfully, and without condition. Therefore, live today with your heart lifted high, knowing your Father has already claimed you as His own.

Our New Identity

Knowing we are sons and daughters changes how we live. We are no longer defined by our past, our failures, or our fears. Instead, we walk in the confidence that comes from being loved by the Creator of the universe. His Spirit within us continually assures us of our identity, enabling us to live in freedom and purpose.
