Clear the Clutter and Put God First

Let Us Pray

Lord, clear the noise around us. Help us to put You first, above screens, schedules, and selfishness. Amen.

Let Us Worship In Song

Introduction

Clear the clutter and put God first. Today’s idols aren’t statues—they’re screens. Be still, seek first His kingdom, and simplify your soul.  Clear the clutter from your soul today. Our generation hasn’t stopped worshiping — we’ve simply changed altars. From social media to streaming services, digital distractions now compete for devotion meant for God.

Main Body

God’s first commandment is both timeless and timely: “You shall have no other gods before me.” (Exodus 20:3). He continues with a warning: “You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the LORD your God am a jealous God.” (Exodus 20:5). That command isn’t just about ancient idols. Today, our “gods” glow from screens, buzz with notifications, and beg for our constant attention. We may not kneel before statues, but we do bow before algorithms. We ask them to affirm our worth, to guide our days, and to comfort our anxious minds. In truth, we haven’t stopped worshiping—we’ve just changed altars.

The psalmist gives us a holy alternative in Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God.” Slowing down is a spiritual act in this fast-paced world. Silence is not empty; it’s full of God. And Jesus Himself set the order straight: “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33). When we make God our priority, everything else finds its rightful place. First things first. Begin your morning with purpose. Before you pick up your phone, pick up your Bible… try stillness. Before social media, seek the Savior. Clear the clutter and come back to the altar that matters.
