Shout to the Lord – Know the Festal Shout

Shout to the Lord in joyful praise with hands lifted high
praise the Lord Joyfully

Introduction

Shout to the Lord with joy and thanksgiving! Psalm 89:15 declares, “Blessed are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O LORD, in the light of Your face.” That “festal shout” in Hebrew refers to a triumphant cry — a sound of victory and celebration among God’s people. Every believer who walks in God’s light can experience this shout of joy, because we know the ultimate victory belongs to Jesus Christ.

Reflection

Think about the moments in life when your heart overflowed with joy — when your favorite team clinched the game, when you caught the biggest fish, or when your grandchild hit the game-winning ball. Those triumphant moments stir something deep within us, something that mirrors what the psalmist calls the festal shout.

Throughout Scripture, shouting appears as a powerful response to God’s presence and victory. Peter shouted, “It is the Lord!” when he recognized Jesus walking on the water (John 21:7). Thomas shouted in awe, “My Lord and my God!” when he touched the resurrected Christ (John 20:28). The people of Israel shouted, and the walls of Jericho fell (Joshua 6:20). And at a Promise Keepers Conference, a pastor once led 35,000 men to shout after every verse of Psalm 23 — a reminder that joy and reverence can coexist beautifully.

If shouting feels too exuberant for you, that’s okay. Scripture offers many ways to praise. The psalmist also said, “So I will bless You as long as I live; in Your name I will lift up my hands” (Psalm 63:4). Whether you shout, whisper, or lift your hands, what matters most is that your heart exalts the Lord with genuine gratitude and worship.

Life Application

To shout to the Lord is to express unashamed joy in His presence. You can do it in your home, in your car, or even in the shower! Today, choose to lift your voice in praise — not because of your circumstances, but because of who God is. His light still shines, and His victory still reigns.
