Introduction
Reflect on New Beginnings with the Lord as you trust God in uncertainty and grow spiritually through change, inspired by Psalm 46:10. New Beginnings with the Lord — This devotion reflects on trusting God through uncertainty and embracing new life, just as twins in the womb anticipate the unknown beyond birth.
We Are Blessed
We are blessed with ten-year-old twins in our family. James and Tess were born ten years ago tomorrow — the day after my stroke. They came a little early and spent some time in the NICU. Susan had family in two hospitals. It was a busy time. I often wonder if twins perhaps have this kind of cerebral conversation in the womb…
A Womb Conversation
In the cozy confines of their mother’s womb, two developing twins engaged in a philosophical debate that had puzzled them for months…
“Hey, sis,” whispered James, his tiny voice muffled by the amniotic fluid. “Do you ever wonder if there’s life after birth?”
Tess scoffed, her umbilical cord swaying gently. “Don’t be ridiculous. This is all there is. What more could we need?”
“But I’ve been thinking,” James persisted. “What if there’s more beyond these walls? A vast world waiting for us?”
“Listen to yourself,” Tess chuckled. “You sound like one of those crazy cord-huggers who believe in the ‘Great Delivery.’ There’s nothing out there.”
James kicked thoughtfully. “But don’t you feel it sometimes? This strange urge to move our legs, as if they have a greater purpose?”
“That’s just gas,” Tess retorted. “Stop overthinking it.”
“And what about the voice we hear? The one that sings to us and tells us stories?”
“Clearly a figment of your imagination,” Tess said, rolling her big blue developing eyes. “You’ve been drinking too much amniotic fluid.”
James sighed. “I just can’t shake this feeling that we’re being prepared for something more. Why else would we be growing and changing?”
“To fit more comfortably in here, obviously,” Tess replied. “This is our forever home.”
“But what if it isn’t?” James pressed. “What if there’s a whole other existence waiting for us? With light and air and—”
“Now you’re just making things up,” Tess interrupted. “Light? Air? Those are myths told to gullible fetuses.”
Transitions!
As they continued their debate, a sudden tightening sensation gripped them both.
“What’s happening?” Tess exclaimed, panic rising in her voice.
James remained calm. “I think it’s time,” he said softly. “The Great Delivery is upon us.”
“No, no, no!” Tess wailed. “I’m not ready! I don’t want to leave!”
But as the pressure increased and their world began to shift, James whispered, “Don’t be afraid, Tess. This is just the beginning of our real adventure.”
And with that, they embarked on their journey into the unknown, leaving behind the only world they had ever known, ready to discover the truth about life after the womb.
Scripture
“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10
This verse carries deep spiritual significance. It implies trust in the face of uncertainty, inner peace, a divine presence, a need to surrender, and perspective of our small role in the grand scheme of things. Just like the twins as they were born into their new realm, we are born again into the life eternal.
Life Application
We are spiritual beings here to have a human experience. Exercise your spiritual muscles by trusting God with your unknowns. As 2 Corinthians 5:17 reminds us, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” Embrace every season of life as preparation for the next, knowing that God is present in every transition and “Great Delivery.”
Morning Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for preparing us for new beginnings. Help us to be still and know that You are God, trusting You as we step into the unknown. Strengthen our faith and give us peace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Wonderful story! Yeah for James and Tess! We don’t know what is ahead for us but we do know that He is right there with us. Faith in what we cannot see!
