ARE YOUR PRAYERS RISING ABOVE THE CEILING?

Are your prayers rising above the ceiling, or are they being blocked by unresolved issues in your heart or home? Scripture warns us that unrepentant sin—especially in marriage—can hinder our prayers. In 1 Peter 3:7, we are called to honor our spouses, treating them as co-heirs of God’s grace, so that nothing stands in the way of our connection with the Lord.

Devotion :

“Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.” — 1 Peter 3:7

This verse offers more than a marriage tip—it’s a spiritual truth with eternal consequences. When we live in disharmony, especially with our spouses, our prayers can become stalled. Peter isn’t diminishing women here—he’s emphasizing shared grace. Marriage is not a power struggle but a grace partnership.

Grace is the unmerited favor of God, and in marriage, as “one flesh,” we share that grace together. When we honor our spouses, we honor God.

I remember vividly my son-in-law rising at his wedding reception to thank everyone who made the day memorable. He asked for spiritual support and stood tall beside my daughter, Cindy. Though she’s just 5’5″, she stood beside Brian with dignity, as he publicly honored her as his co-heir to the Kingdom of God. That image stays with me as a powerful example of how honoring one another lifts our prayers rather than hindering them.

A Prayer for Today

Lord, help me to remove every barrier that may be blocking my prayers—especially pride, bitterness, or lack of honor in my relationships. Teach me to love as You love and to walk in unity with those You’ve placed in my life. Amen.

From the Worst to the Best: God’s Redemptive Power

The worst sin ever committed was the murder of the Son of God. Yet, from that unimaginable evil, God brought forth the best thing that has ever happened on this planet—our salvation. If God brings good from bad on that scale, surely He can redeem the most painful chapters of our own lives.

Full Devotion Body:

Life has a way of pulling us to extremes. One moment we’re standing on the mountaintop, basking in light, and the next we’re crawling through the depths of a dark valley. But there’s a promise woven through all of it—God brings good from bad.

Think about it: the crucifixion of Jesus was the darkest moment in human history. It was cruel, unjust, and agonizing. And yet, that very moment became the doorway to eternal life, hope, and reconciliation with our Creator.

If God can take the worst thing and make it the best thing, He can certainly do the same in your life.

Whatever valley you’re walking through today—grief, loss, failure, uncertainty—remember that God isn’t finished. He is working behind the scenes. Your story isn’t over.

So let’s not grumble about the journey. Let’s count our blessings, praise God for the process, and embrace each day as a step closer to the home He’s preparing for us.

Prayer:

Lord,
Thank You for showing us that even the worst things can serve Your divine purpose. Help us to trust You when we don’t understand and to rejoice in each part of the journey. May we see Your hand in our highs and lows and praise You in every season.
Amen.

Sin by Another Name

Are You Loving Like Christ?

“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”
—John 15:12

Paul doesn’t mince words when he lists the “works of the flesh”:

“Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies…”
—Galatians 5:19-21

Sometimes sin hides behind socially acceptable actions or, worse, our own indifference. We may think we’re doing no harm, but in reality, our failure to love others as Christ loved us can be deeply painful.

Everyday Actions That Hurt Others

We might not associate the following with sin, but reverse the roles and feel the sting:

  • Ignoring the needs of a friend
  • Failing to reach out during illness or death
  • Overreacting in a tense situation
  • Leaving someone out of a group gathering
  • Using a harsh tone when gentleness would do

These actions, seemingly small, can sow division and cause pain. If we ask ourselves, “How would I feel if this were done to me?”, we begin to see how easily we drift from Christ’s command.

Live by the Spirit, Not the Flesh

Paul points us to a better way:

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control…”
—Galatians 5:22

Today, let’s focus on gentleness, kindness, patience, and self-control. These traits aren’t just ideals—they are the evidence of Christ in us.

A Prayer for Today

Lord, help me see where my actions fall short of Your love. Teach me to reflect gentleness, patience, and kindness in all I do. May I never excuse harm by calling it harmless. Help me to truly love others as You have loved me. Amen.

REMOVE YOUR GRAVE CLOTHES

Discover how spiritual growth begins by removing the grave clothes of your past. Walk freely in Christ’s new life.

In John 11:44, we see Jesus call Lazarus out of the tomb, commanding, “Unbind him, and let him go.” This simple command holds a powerful truth: when Jesus calls us into new life, we must also remove the “grave clothes” of our past in order to walk freely with Him.

Walking Out of the Grave

Lazarus had died and was bound for the grave—wrapped tightly in linens, prepared for eternal rest. Yet when Jesus spoke, death had to obey. Lazarus came forth alive, still wrapped in the garments of death. Jesus didn’t stop at resurrection—He told others to help remove those bindings.

When we are baptized, we die to sin and are raised to walk in newness of life (Romans 6:4). But like Lazarus, many of us still carry the trappings of our old life. Bitterness, shame, fear, guilt—these are the grave clothes that keep us from living fully in Christ’s freedom.

Removing your grave clothes means releasing those old ways of thinking and living. It means accepting God’s grace and stepping boldly into your identity as His workmanship (Ephesians 2:10).

A Simple Question

Have you removed your grave clothes in order to freely walk with Christ?
It’s not enough to be called from the tomb—we must also be unbound. Today, ask God to help you identify what’s still clinging to your spirit and holding you back.

A Prayer for Today

Lord Jesus, thank You for calling me out of the grave. Help me to shed every layer of my old self so I can walk freely in the new life You’ve given me. Unbind my heart, renew my mind, and guide me in Your truth. Amen.

David Prophesied Jesus on the Cross

“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” – Psalm 22:1

Psalm 22 is not just a cry of anguish from David—it is a prophetic picture of Jesus on the Cross. Long before Jesus walked the earth, David penned words that would be fulfilled in striking detail at Calvary.

Psalm 22: A Foretelling of the Cross

David’s words echo the very agony Jesus spoke from the Cross. The chapter goes on to describe:

  • Being despised and mocked by people
  • Piercing of hands and feet
  • Division of garments among enemies

David cried:

  • “Far from saving me…”
  • “You do not answer.”
  • “I find no rest.”

God could have intervened—but He didn’t.

Why? Because Jesus was carrying our sins.

God’s Purpose in the Silence

“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
—2 Corinthians 5:21

God forsook Jesus momentarily so He would never have to forsake you. Jesus became sin for us, so we might be made righteous through Him.

Let us begin this day in deep gratitude for the Savior who suffered, so we could be made whole.

A Prayer of Thanksgiving

Lord, thank You for Jesus. Thank You for loving us so deeply that You were willing to forsake Your own Son so we could be forgiven. Help us live in the righteousness Jesus secured for us. May our lives reflect His sacrifice. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Life Is Not Super Bowl Saturday

In a world that idolizes grand moments—Super Bowl victories, buzzer-beaters, and headlines—we must not forget the quiet, transformative power of small things done with great love.

“In this life, we cannot do great things, we can only do small things with great love.”

Mother Teresa

Greatness Reimagined

Sports history immortalizes dramatic moments:

    •    Willie Mays’ over-the-shoulder catch in the 1954 World Series

    •    Joe Montana’s iconic touchdown pass to Dwight Clark in 1982

    •    Caitlin Clark rewriting the record books in women’s basketball

You probably have your own list.

These are exciting, yes—but in God’s Kingdom, greatness looks a lot different.

The Christian Playbook

Jesus taught that what we do for “the least of these” matters eternally (Matthew 25:40).

When He rescued the woman caught in adultery, He showed us how compassion outranks condemnation.

His love :

    •    dignified the forgotten,

    •    healed the broken,

    •    uplifted the humble.

The Power of Small Acts

Every day we’re given a chance to reflect Christ through seemingly simple gestures:

    •    Donate unused clothing

    •    Help someone with physical impairments

    •    Visit someone in a nursing home

    •    Join a prison ministry

    •    Quietly pay for someone’s lunch

These are not just acts of charity. They are spiritual investments—proof of a living faith that moves beyond words.

“When you have done it to the least of these, you have done it unto me.” — Jesus, Matthew 25:40

A Prayer to Reflect

Lord, help me see the sacredness in small acts. Teach me to measure greatness not by applause, but by compassion. Amen.

Overcoming Worry and Anxiety Through Faith in God

Worry and anxiety are battles every believer faces, but God’s Word gives clear guidance for overcoming them. At Devotions Done Daily, we believe that overcoming worry begins with trusting in God’s promises, praying with thanksgiving, and resting in His peace. Today’s devotion offers biblical encouragement, practical steps, and two beautiful worship songs to help you lay down your burdens and find rest in Him.

Worry and Anxiety: God’s Solution for a Peaceful Heart

The Bible teaches Christians not to worry. Philippians 4:6 says,

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

Worry should not be a part of the believer’s life. But how do we actually overcome worry?

The answer is clear:

“Casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7).

Jesus Himself invites us:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28-30).

Putting God First Cures Anxiety
When we prioritize our relationship with God, anxiety loses its grip. We can trust the Lord to provide for our needs, protect us from evil, guide us daily, and secure our souls for eternity.

The primary focus of a believer’s life should be:

  • Loving the Lord (Matthew 22:34-38)
  • Loving others (Matthew 22:39-40; 1 Corinthians 13:13; 1 John 4:21)
  • Seeking first God’s kingdom and righteousness (Matthew 6:33)

If you find yourself caught in a web of worry, it’s time to pray. Turn your concerns over to the Holy Spirit who lives within you, and trust Him to carry your burdens.

Let these two songs minister to your heart as you surrender your worries to Him:

Climb Every Mountain: Embracing Trials Through Faith

At Devotions Done Daily, we believe that climbing life’s mountains with unwavering faith is the true mark of spiritual growth. Today’s devotion reminds us that trials are not setbacks—they are God’s refining fires that shape us to be steadfast and complete, lacking nothing.

“A lot of men in the church today are selling maps to mountains they’ve never climbed…”
— Anonymous

Have you ever noticed how easy it is to give advice about challenges you’ve never personally faced? James reminds us in James 1:2-4 that real faith isn’t theoretical—it’s lived.

“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”

Life will inevitably bring mountains that seem impossible to climb. These are not punishments—they are opportunities. Opportunities for our faith to be refined, much like silver or gold in the fire:

“I will refine them like silver and purify them like gold.”
— Zechariah 13:9

There will be seasons where your only lifeline is your faith in God. I’m living in that period right now, and I can testify—His grace is sufficient.

The Psalmist teaches us from childhood that even in the darkest valleys, God’s presence brings comfort:

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
— Psalm 23:4

As you climb your mountains today, remember: you are not lacking anything when you have Jesus. Walk boldly with faith, knowing that the same God who allowed the trial is walking beside you through it.

A Single event that transformed the World.

Throughout history, humanity has longed for rescue from oppression—a theme reflected in stories and legends. Christianity uniquely fulfills this longing through Jesus Christ, whose life, death, and resurrection are celebrated at Easter. Unlike other religions that focus on rituals and rules, Jesus offered forgiveness and a direct relationship with God through grace. He simplified the law to loving God and others, freeing believers from burdensome religious requirements.

Jesus’ life was foretold by ancient prophets, and His death and resurrection were prophesied with remarkable accuracy. Unlike religious leaders whose deaths ended their influence, Jesus’ resurrection was witnessed by many, including groups of disciples and 500 people at once. The apostles, having seen the risen Christ, devoted their lives to spreading this message—most even dying as martyrs, which testifies to their conviction.

Easter is not just a tradition but a celebration of the pivotal event that changed the world: Jesus’ resurrection. This event is one of the best-supported in ancient history and offers hope and proof of God’s love and power. Through Christ, all are invited to move from despair to hope and from death to new life.

Make Sure Others Share Your Joy

“that which we have SEEN AND HEARD we proclaim also to you, SO THAT YOU TOO may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.”

1 John 1:3-4

John wrote this some 50 years after he walked with Jesus throughout Jesus’ ministry to include the crucifixion, resurrection and ascension.

John, in his wisdom did not want us to miss what he witnessed and experienced.

John heard Jesus say to Martha; Just Believe!

“I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever BELIEVES IN ME, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and BELIEVES IN ME, shall never die. DO YOU BELIEVE THIS?”

John 11:25
