Everyone Has a Seat at the Table

When building God’s Kingdom, everyone has a seat at the table.
“I am writing to you, LITTLE CHILDREN, because your sins are forgiven for his name’s sake. I am writing to you, FATHERS, because you know him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, YOUNG MEN, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, CHILDREN, because you know the Father. I write to you, FATHERS, because you know him who is from God. I write to you, YOUNG MEN, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.” — 1 John 2:12–14 (ESV)
Everyone has a seat at the table in the Kingdom of God. John the Apostle, writing near the end of his life, highlights how every generation plays a vital role in the Church.
The Body of Christ Is Intergenerational
At nearly 80 years old, John sees clearly what each age group contributes. Children offer pure faith and growing awareness of God. Young men bring spiritual energy and resilience. Fathers—those with life experience—carry deep knowledge of God and wisdom hard-earned through trial and time.
This intergenerational view reminds us that the Church is healthiest when all voices are welcomed. The body of Christ was never meant to be divided by age, gender, status, or ability. We are one, and we need each other.
We Build the Kingdom Together
Today, reflect on who may be missing from your table. Are the children being heard? Are the elders being honored? Are the young given space to grow and serve?
Neglecting any group weakens the Church’s ability to reflect Christ’s love. When every person is given a seat, the body becomes whole, unified in grace and purpose. As Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 12, “If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.”
Let Us Pray
Lord, thank You that Your Kingdom welcomes every person. Help me make space at the table for all. Amen.

Thanks for this devotion. Having an open table and be welcoming to all is something Christians should be proud of! By opening your life to all, it shows that the spirit is alive in each and everyone of us. I pray that we all exemplify this.
