Driving out Fear

>Driving out fear starts with God’s love. Learn how His Spirit gives power, not fear. Read this devotion and be encouraged today.

“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.” 1 John 4:18

Driving out fear begins with understanding the power of love through Christ.

Fear Has a Purpose, But Not a Mastery

Fear, when tied to danger, can protect us. It prompts caution and survival instincts. However, the fear that John writes about is not physical fear. It is the fear of failure—a crippling, paralyzing doubt that hinders us from living fully in Christ.

This kind of fear keeps us from speaking honestly with loved ones, stepping up in ministry, or volunteering the gifts God gave us. It whispers lies that we’re not enough. Yet Scripture tells us otherwise.

God Gives Power, Not Fear

The Apostle Paul reminds us of our true spiritual identity: “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control” (2 Timothy 1:7, ESV).

This isn’t just motivational language—it’s the Spirit of God alive in every believer. And Paul emphasizes this strength again in Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”

So today, let’s reject fear. Let’s believe what God says about us. Let His perfect love—not our performance—define us. When fear says, “You can’t,” faith answers, “I can, through Christ.”

Let Us Pray

Lord, fill me with your Spirit of love and power. Cast out fear from my heart. Help me walk in courage and trust you more each day. Amen.
