Attitude and Action

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
— Romans 12:12

Attitude and action shape our spiritual outcomes daily.

Shaping Our Life by God’s Word

Paul offers us a powerful three-part formula in Romans 12:12: “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” This guidance is both an attitude and an action we can choose daily. These aren’t just suggestions—they are spiritual tools within our control.

First, be joyful in hope. No matter your situation, see yourself as the victor, not the victim. Hope isn’t naive optimism—it’s confidence in God’s promises.

Second, be patient in affliction. Remind yourself, “Though there be tears of the night, there will be joy in the morning” and “This too shall pass.” God never wastes pain.

Third, remain faithful in prayer. As 1 Thessalonians 5:17 says, “Pray without ceasing.” Prayer is your lifeline to God. Don’t let the hardships silence your prayers—instead, let them deepen your connection with Him.

Practice What You Think

Paul expands on this in Philippians 4:8–9:

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable—if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise—think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.”

We are what we think, as Proverbs 23:7 reminds us: “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Aligning your attitude with God’s truth results in a life filled with peace and purpose.

Let Us Pray

Lord, help me align my thoughts and actions with Your truth. Give me joy in hope, patience in trials, and faithfulness in prayer. Amen.

My husband, Gaylen, has been having several health issues and is having a procedure Monday to stop an aneurysm from growing. I’d appreciate your prayers.
