In a recent devotion, I stated, “If you don’t understand the Old Testament, you can’t possibly understand the New Testament.” The following are a few examples: 1. God gave 613 commandments after the ten commandments 2. God’s detailed timeline. This prophecy provides details about Jesus’ first coming when calculated on the Jewish calendar. It tells the exact day He would enter Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, and it also discusses His second coming Daniel 9:24 and following. 3. Ezekiel chapters 40-48 gives a detailed description of the new Temple that Jesus will rule the world from for 1,000 years after His second coming. This prophecy also states there will be animal sacrifices in this new temple and many other things. 4. The book of Zechariah also provides details about the second coming of Jesus.
There are many other examples of things in the Old Testament that help us understand the New Testament. Yet many Christians only study the New Testament and ask the question, “why?”
I have been blessed that I belong to a denomination that has Sunday morning Bible study material that covers every book of the Bible every five years.
Do you study the Old Testament or just the New Testament?
Understand the Old Testament, you can’t possibly understand the New Testament.
Praise God always
