Are You Thirsty? Come and Drink the Living Water
Every soul grows thirsty for something more, but Jesus offers living water that truly satisfies the human heart, now and forever more. Have you ever noticed how thirst has a way of interrupting your day? A dry mouth, a scratchy throat, and suddenly nothing else matters until you find something to drink. Our bodies are built that way; in fact, roughly half of who we are is simply water. Yet on one particular day in Jerusalem, Jesus stood before a thirsty crowd and offered something far greater than anything a well or a bottle could provide. He offered Himself.

Scripture Focus: John 7:37–38
On the last day of the Feast of Tabernacles, Jesus stood before the crowd gathered in Jerusalem and made an extraordinary offer. Here is the complete passage:
“On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, “Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”’” (John 7:37–38, ESV)

Jesus did not whisper this invitation. He stood up, and He cried out loud enough for the whole festival crowd to hear. Notice exactly what He promised: not a sip, not a trickle, but rivers. Let’s look at what that promise means for you today.
Life Application: Drinking from the River
Our Thirst Is Real
Roughly half of your body is water, so your thirst for it never really goes away. Skip a few hours without a drink, and your body reminds you fast. Jesus knew this about us physically, but He also knew something deeper. Underneath our physical thirst sits a spiritual one, and it never gets satisfied by anything on a store shelf.
Jesus Knows What We Are Chasing
Most of us chase something. We chase success, approval, money, recognition, or control, believing the next achievement will finally quiet the ache inside. Yet the moment we reach one goal, another one appears, and the thirst returns stronger than before. Jesus already understood this pattern long before any modern researcher wrote it down. He stood in the middle of a crowd that was striving after exactly these things, and He offered a completely different answer. He offered Himself.
Rivers, Not Trickles
Notice that the promise Jesus made was never small. He did not offer a sip or a trickle of relief; He promised rivers. When we believe in Him, the Holy Spirit fills our hearts and begins overflowing into the lives around us. That overflow shows up as our spiritual gifts: encouragement, generosity, wisdom, compassion, and countless other ways God uses ordinary people to bless others. Living water was never meant to stay bottled up inside us. Consequently, it flows outward, refreshing everyone it touches.
Following Even When You Don’t Understand
The disciples had no idea what Jesus meant when He said He would make them fishers of men: “And he said to them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men’” (Matthew 4:19, ESV). Nevertheless, they came, and they followed, trusting Him even without a full explanation. That simple obedience became the foundation of a Church that now includes well over a billion believers. Therefore, you do not need every answer before you take a step of faith. God already has a plan for you, and it is good.
What This Looks Like Today
Picture a tired parent who finally stops striving to be perfect and simply asks Jesus for strength before the school run. Picture a coworker who chooses patience instead of frustration because the Holy Spirit is filling, not draining, their heart. Picture a friend who forgives someone who hurt them, not because it is easy, but because living water is flowing through them into that relationship. None of this happens through willpower alone. It happens because a thirsty soul finally came to Jesus and drank.
This morning, as you set your game plan with God for the day ahead, let His living water flow through you. Come thirsty, and let Him fill you until it overflows into someone else’s life.

A.W. Tozer, the twentieth-century pastor and author of The Pursuit of God, captured this same holy thirst when he prayed, “I have tasted Thy goodness, and it has…made me thirsty for more” (A.W. A Prayer for Today
Lord Jesus, thank You for standing up and calling out to thirsty people like me. I confess that I have often tried to satisfy my soul with things that never truly fill me. Today I come to You, and I ask You to fill me with Your living water. Let it flow through me to bless the people around me. Give me courage to follow You, even when I don’t fully understand where You are leading. I trust that Your plan for me is good. In Your precious name I pray, Amen.
