Introduction
Discover what it means to come to Jesus without conditions or requirements. Embrace His invitation just as you are today. Some invitations are complicated. Others are wrapped in fine print, conditions, or requirements we must meet before we’re welcome. Jesus’ invitation isn’t like that. He simply says, “Come.” No résumé required. No performance to prove. Just come, exactly as you are, to the One who has already made a way for you. Today we look at why so many people search for life everywhere except the one place it’s actually found.

Scripture Focus
Jesus spoke directly to religious people who studied Scripture carefully, yet missed Him entirely:
“Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.” (John 5:39-40, KJV)
His invitation to ordinary fishermen was just as simple:
“And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matthew 4:19, KJV)
Jesus also warned that everyone follows someone or something:
“I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.” (John 5:43, KJV)
And Scripture reminds us that what we believe in our hearts shapes everything about us:
“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7, KJV)
These four verses together paint a clear picture — and that picture leads us straight into today’s Life Application.
Life Application
Come and Be Known
It’s possible to know a lot about Jesus without ever actually coming to Him. The religious leaders in John 5 had memorized the Scriptures. They could quote them, debate them, and teach them. Yet Jesus told them plainly that all their study hadn’t led them to Him. Head knowledge, however impressive, is never the same as a relationship. Maybe you grew up in church. Maybe you can recite Bible verses from memory. That’s a wonderful foundation. But Jesus isn’t asking us to simply know facts about Him. He’s asking us to come to Him — to trust Him, follow Him, and let Him change how we live.
A Simple Word, A Life-Changing Decision
Notice how uncomplicated Jesus’ invitation to the disciples was. He didn’t ask Peter and Andrew to clean up their lives first nor did He require them to understand theology. He simply said, “Follow me.” That’s it. Everything else — the growth, the understanding, the transformation — happened afterward, as they walked with Him day by day.
That’s still true for us today. You don’t need to have your life sorted out before you come to Jesus. You come as you are, and He does the sorting out from there.
Someone Will Have Your Heart
Jesus also gave a sobering warning. If we won’t receive Him, we’ll receive someone else instead — another voice, another priority, another source we look to for meaning and identity. There’s no neutral ground. Every heart follows something.
That’s why Proverbs 23:7 matters so much: as a person thinks in their heart, so they are. What fills your thoughts eventually shapes your life. If Christ isn’t the one you’re coming to, something else has already taken His place, whether you’ve noticed it or not.
The Good News in “Come”
Here’s the encouraging part. Jesus’ invitation was never meant to condemn — it was meant to rescue. He didn’t say, “Prove yourself, then come.” He said, “Come, and I will give you life.” That’s grace. That’s an open door standing wide for anyone willing to walk through it.
If you’ve been searching everywhere else — success, relationships, distractions, even religious activity — but haven’t truly come to Jesus Himself, today can be the day that changes. He’s not waiting for you to get it all together. He’s simply waiting for you to come.
Supporting Christian Quotation
Billy Graham once said, “God proved His love on the Cross. When Christ hung, and bled, and died, it was God saying to the world, ‘I love you.'” That’s the heart behind Jesus’ invitation — love that reaches out and simply says, come.
Let Us Pray
Lord Jesus, thank You for calling us to Yourself with such a simple, loving invitation. Forgive us for the times we’ve searched everywhere except to You for the life we’re longing for. Help us to truly come — not just to know about You, but to know You. Fill our hearts so completely with Your love that nothing else has room to take Your place. We’re grateful for Your grace that meets us right where we are. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Closing Worship Song
